Publisher's summary

All Genviève Mirabelle wanted was her mother's belongings and a place for herself, out from under the watchful eyes of her step-brothers. The Trent Brothers, specifically. Since coming into her life they have had very definite plans for her future, despite her objections. There is only one thing keeping her from seeking her freedom: her mother's missing shipment. Once found, she can live as she wishes, without a gentleman telling her what to do.

Mr. Jonathan Bridges owns one of the finest shipping lines in London. That is, he did until his secretary and a few employees disappeared, leaving a muddle of things. Now several crates are missing and he has no explanation for the owners. The one most persistent in demanding answers is Miss Genviève Mirabelle. As much as he tries to put her off, she is determined to help him. Heaven save him from meddling females who are better served sitting at home having tea.

Their search leads them from the docks and right into the heart of a smuggling ring. But their lives are not the only thing in danger. Their hearts hang in the balance, since neither one ever anticipated what was to come.

Lots of fun

***this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review

I enjoyed this book. The story of Jonanthan and Geneveieve proved to be fun and exciting as the story unfolded. Looking for her mother's things, Geneveieve stumbles on a mess she just has to clean up. Jonathan just wants her to go away while he seaches out where his shipments are going. What do they get? A smuggling ring and a an attraction they just can't fight. Total fun.

Another wonderful performance by Melanie Fraser. I love her narrations, taking me directly into the story and keeps me listening.

This was the first one in the series I listened to, and while it could stand alone, I do think having the history of the others would have been beneficial.

Light Historical Romance

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was an enjoyable listen. Not a book that I'd go out of my way for but interesting enough that I brought more books in the series.

If you’ve listened to books by Jane Charles before, how does this one compare?

This is my first book by this author.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Her accent seemed a bit off. It neither sounded French nor Italian to me. I heard worse jobs done by narrators with imitating an accent. I'd suggest that either the narrator not try to do the accent or work to improve the accent.

Was Lady Concealed worth the listening time?

This is sort of a repeat of an earlier question.

Any additional comments?

This was an okay book and it interested me enough that I bought some more books in the series. The heroine was strong and intelligent, her brothers were bossy and protective and her lover had a hard time accepting and coming to terms with the heroines independence.

There was some action and suspense. It was an enjoyable light listen. A good before bed listen or listen as one drives or does chores as one doesn't need to pay close attention to the story while listening to the book.

Very enjoyable, light, and fun.

This was my first read of one of Jane Charles' books, and I enjoyed it. I liked the characters, pacing and overall story. There were a few funny moments also. I admit I was confused at times. I thought I had book 1 in the series but, after looking further, realized it is a later book. I could not figure out the main character's accent. I listened to the audio and though the name sounded French, I wasn't sure about the accent. But, I didn't find until later in the story that she had either lived for a while or grew up in France. Despite that, it was a nice, light read. I would recommend starting from the beginning of the series, though you wouldn't be overly lost or confused if you didn't. It definitely is a series I plan to read. The narrator did a nice job. She had all of the inflexion, feeling, and nuances for the characters. At times her speech was a bit quick, but overall, a very pleasant read/listen.

Frode not Concealed!

Lady Concealed is my first Jane Charles book, but not my last! It is that good, trust me! Good character development. gets you a long way! My only complaints are: one - there was no epilogue, and since this is the last in a series i had not read i wanted to get some flashback to the others books. So dear ALL: Don't start here! I was a bit confused, so i wanted to start from the beginning! Still: Lady Concealed is a fun 5 hrs and 19 mins and i feel like i could have fun with this as a standalone, but i recommend to hear the first books first! But i am not concealed about my enjoyment in this book!

Melanie Fraser is not new to me, and i loved her work on The Final Dawn. She is is still good, don't get me wrong, she was just better in The Final Dawn. What about Genviève accent? It is just not that good, i am sorry. I am a big Melanie Fraser fan, but that accent was just not that good. Still 4 out of 5 is not bad, and i do recommend this! Just make sure you start from the beginning!

A Very Enjoyable Narration

3 star story, 4 star narration

This was a very enjoyable audiobook. It is part of a series but my enjoyment wasn't hampered even though I haven't read the other books in the series. This is a regency historical romance, taking place at a time when men were either gentlemen or rakes, and reputation was simply everything.

I don't think there is anything particularly astounding about this romance. It has an independent and clever young woman as the main character, Genevieve, who doesn't feel the need for protection from her newly discovered half brothers and wants to be independent.

She finds a way to achieve this when she meets Jonathan Bridges, the owner of a shipping company which may have lost her deceased mother's possessions.

Jonathan is attracted to the bright young lady that he finds sorting out the mess in his office but he is up to his neck in worry because it appears a smuggling ring has been using his shipping business for a cover and now he has to trace missing shipping crates and he needs help.

Jonathan is desperate enough to accept help from Genevieve and her family and so the adventure begins and love emerges along the way especially as the two of them find themselves in a rather compromising position.

The story is enjoyable but it is the narration that really brought things to life for me. A narrator can either bring a book to life by opening it up to the listener or they can kill the story off by smothering it in monotony. This narrator was brilliant in the way she gave voice to the different characters and managed to keep the book within its historical setting.

The way she emphasised various aspects of the story took me back to a time when women were there to grace men's lives and men were supposed to be protectors and providers. I was drawn into the story and really enjoyed listening to this.

I don't think I will read the other books in the series because regency romance is not really a strong favourite of mine but this was such an enjoyable audiobook and fans of this genre would find this audiobook to be delightful.

Strong Heroine in a Short Suspense Romance

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast dot com.

Firstly, I had to do my due diligence on this one. Since I had not listened to all the books and this appeared to be the last one in the series, I went and look up all the books in Tenacious Trents Series and figured out whose story we were and where this Trent fits in. I have only purchased book #2 in the series and really enjoyed it so when I saw I can get this one free for a review, I did not let that deter me. I think the book is acceptable as a stand-alone novel. There were references to the rest of the family which helped kept the characters straight and as Jonathan once muses “the entire Trent family were always about”.

This is the story of Genviève and Jonathan. Genviève is the last of the unmarried Trent’s. She and Jonathan meets when she goes to his warehouse to look for a shipment and find it a mess. There were stacks of unsorted paperwork and she takes it upon herself to get it put to right. Genviève is a very strong female characters who wants a life outside of the traditional women roles and hated the shackles of society. My favorite kind of heroine. There is another love interest thrown in to make things interested for Jonathan. They got to the bottom of the missing shipments and set out to capture the smuggling ring and bring them to justice. There is a lot of back and forth as she insists on getting out of her brothers’ clutches and only consent to marriage when Jonathan accepts that she works with him side by side at the docks in his business.

The overall performance is acceptable. However, I was not a fan of voice used for Genviève accent. It was a bit tiresome but I got used to it after a while as the narrator did have a clear, crisp voice. She is an expert at inserting the right pauses and inflection while keeping the flow of things at a right pace.

I have a rather strict criteria for what I use my credit on. For me this book probably falls more in the purchase category because it is so short but certainly worthy of a credit.

Can't understand the "French" accident. What a waste

The narrator ruined it before I had listened to the entire first chapter. I couldn't understand a word she said with her "French" accent. I think I will try the book because I was really looking forward to this story.
