About this listen

The conclusion to the Langbourne series.

David, a much older man now, sits on his verandah with his old friend, Nguni, as they reminisce on the good old days. Not having seen each other in almost 50 years, there is much news to tell, many stories to laugh at, and some sorrows to reflect on.

Based on an untold true story, this book brings the Langbourne family's saga to its conclusion. The book has a special feature on some of the actual people depicted in this series.

The family records

As a Rhodesian child learning of CJR Jameson Courtney Selous and other greats of the era, I loved how the story teller introduced them as part of the story. I was just reaching my adult years as the country transitioned to Zimbabwe. Experienced the liberation struggle through the lense of a white Rhodesian girl whose father brother neighbours all went to help the war effort, I could identify with so many of the sentiments expressed. My own husband also passed out of Morris depot Police training in 1978 squad 6.
We can picture the original Bulawayo property as we sometimes shopped in Meikles . Our courtship and early married years involved going to Matopos where my husband had spent many happy years of his childhood fishing with his wonderful grandfather.
Well done to the author for weaving so much history into such a readable format and thankyou to the narrator who mastered the accents so expertly.

The history and wonderful life stories.

I loved it all and knowing so many of the places and areas, I lived it with them.
