    Not for learning from scratch

The Learn In Your Car series consists of spoken words and phrases that you hear and repeat twice. If you have already taken lessons it is very good for vocabulary building, but I don't think it is at all useful for learning from scratch. You could play the lessons forever and not get a sense of the structure of the language. If you really want to learn how to speak Japanese from scratch in your car you need the Pimsleur system.

I'd rate this title 1 star for learning from scratch but 5 stars for learning vocabulary... so I'll compromise and give it a 3.

    Not for the beginner

I agree w/ Christine, from Anaheim, CA. I have taken Nihon in a classroom setting and I still had a diffucult time understanding some of the vocabulary. Keep in mind that the narrator is a native speaker and is "saying" the words, not "pronouncing" them. I don't recommend it for someone begining with this language. Listen to the preview before you decide to buy it.

    very good

I have finished "japanese for busy people 1" by self study with the tapes and this is course is good because I now practise without a book. I do use a dictionary to get the spelling correct and therefore the pronunciation.
I am not sure how I would rate this for a beginner, maybe it is good to learn to speak before learning to write, just like a child!

    Very Disappointing

I?ve tried four audio programs and five different books. In my estimation, this program is the worst of the lot. It consists of the repetition of random vocabulary words. Besides being very boring, the exercises were essentially useless. You?re even likely to pick some erroneous information: Sometimes the English word is given once, but in Japanese you?re unknowingly presented with two different variants of the translation, as if it were one answer. Try repeating that back to your Japanese friends?very embarrassing!

By far the best program I?ve found is the Pimsleur series. It?s challenging, interesting, and for the first time I?m really making progress. Thanks to Pimsleur, I?ve not only gained an understanding of Japanese sentence structure in a short time, but I?ve actually picked up useful words and phrases to use with my Japanese co-workers.

    Save your money

I wish I had read the reviews first and I would not have wasted $$.

It may be good as a printed book, but it does not translate to a audiobook at all
