About this listen

Can you teach an old villain new tricks? In an attempt to rebrand himself, ELM attends a Villain’s Anonymous meeting and learns about a way he can do some good. Desperate to leave his mark, he accepts the quest of finding Leftbeard’s Treasure–a collection of stolen left socks from across the Beandom. All those who know the secrets of the treasure are long dead, so ELM must rely on the services of Grandmother Grimma–an expert necromancer. But even as he tries to play the part of a hero, ELM feels the pull back toward the dark, and he fears his heroic journey may end up right back where he started: a villain with a missing left sock.

A Funny Fantasy

I enjoyed book 4 as much as the first three books in the series. I liked ELM, and I appreciated the whimsy of a character, who was previously a villain, trying to re-brand himself. I was amused by some of the events and dialogue between characters. I liked the incorporation of contemporary colloquialisms repurposed to fit into this story. I was entertained by the musical numbers. Kevin Perkins' narration was fun and a pure joy to hear. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

A funny quest for missing left socks.

It’s good to know that a quest doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out event. ELM was able to pick any quest from an “Intro to Questing” book, and he chose to find the missing socks. That may sound dull and boring, but with this cast of characters it definitely wasn’t.
We still have Slad the Vegan Vampire, and other familiar faces, but we are introduced to more wacky characters. We meet Count Muchausen, who hosts a recovering villains group, a “Quaken”, the misfits (reminiscent of the island of misfit toys in Rudolph), and a host of other living, and non-living figures.
I can’t explain how absolutely delightfully silly and interesting this quest was without giving away the puns and punch lines. Just listen to this audiobook and you will be entranced with a 3 bean circus, the Drac Pack, hokiness, more rabbits, and an unlikely anti-hero.

Redemption, necromancy, & sock-stealing mischief!

Michael Young’s Leftbeard's Treasure is a quirky, delightful romp filled with humor, heart, and the most unexpected treasure hunt imaginable! Kevin Perkins’ narration brings ELM and his hilariously offbeat quest to life, weaving charm and wit into every scene. A perfect blend of redemption, necromancy, and sock-stealing mischief!

Fun and funny.

A missing socks mystery. A villan who wants to change. Characters crazier than a loon. So many play on words. Fun and funny.

Kevin Perkins is the master of the qwerty strange voices. So many delightfully irritating voices for these crazy, weird characters. 5 stars for him.

I was lifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. This is my honest review.
