A series of grisly murders has shaken the small city of Aruldusk. Both the Church and the Crown send in agents to investigate. Too convoluted

I felt like the writer was tired and reaching for something that never quite came. Where is book 2 the characters felt alive and actively developing, the main protagonists here felt flat and static. I had difficulty getting involved.

Also waaaay too many varrients on the same thing. Yes there are shifters and wearwolves and whatnot other subraces and so on but does it really make the story better to all give them their own angles and plot twists? The whole thing jut lost cohesion like that.

I did like the way the combat and different magics and class features were described. If you are a roleplayer there is some inspiration there even though not all of it is raw or even makes sense. And the narration was excellent once more. Much better then the 'rum' girl from the spinnoff form book 2.

All in all not worth my time. Will be returning the book.
