About this listen

Chicago, 1944. Liz Stephens has little interest in attending a USO club dance with her friends Betty and Julia. She doesn't need a flirtation with a lonely serviceman when she's set to marry her childhood sweetheart. Yet something happens the moment Liz glimpses Morgan McClain. They share only a brief exchange - cut short by the soldier's evident interest in Betty - but Liz can't forget him. Thus, when Betty asks her to ghostwrite a letter to Morgan, stationed overseas, Liz reluctantly agrees.

Thousands of miles away, Morgan struggles to adjust to the brutality of war. His letters from "Betty" are a comfort, their soul-baring correspondence a revelation to them both. While Liz is torn by her feelings for a man who doesn't know her true identity, Betty and Julia each become immersed in their own romantic entanglements. And as the war draws to a close, all three will face heart-wrenching choices, painful losses, and the bittersweet joy of new beginnings.

Beautifully rendered and deeply moving, Letters from Home is a story of hope and connection, of sacrifices made in love and war - and the chance encounters that change us forever.

Good story but performance was lacking

I couldn't wait to read this book but didn't get through the story because some of the voices, especially the male characters, were "off". I'm an avid Audible fan and I couldn't get past the character voices to finish the story. I suggest using a male for the male characters or someone who doesn't sound like a mouse.

Historical love story

It was a good story, at times, it got a little slow, but ultimately had a good plot and moved along.

A Must Read

I have no words for how this book made me feel. It had me filled with so much anticipation about Liz and Morgan (that's my name too but I'm a girl lol). There were so many times when I just wanted her to tell him but I understood why she didn't. Their letters were so sweet, so touching so heartwarming. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, WWII and overall just a fantastic read.

Good story but annoying narrator

Cute story. Not a five star for me but enjoyable. I think I would have enjoyed it more if read. I found the narrators voices for some of the characters to be very annoying. Just my opinion.

Baby voices

I love the story but the baby voices used for some of the girls really distracted from the story.

Good

I felt like this book started slow and got better the longer I listened. I’m glad I stuck with it.

Letters are so under appreciated as a medium of love and connection!

The narrator brings to life the troubles of the war during letter correspondence between couples and friends. No longer do we wait for a letter with such anticipation the way they did during this time of so many unknowns. This story weaves many lives that have no pictures but use words to let others “see” what they are going through.

Pretty good

I listened to this one on a whim. I enjoyed it well enough. Reminder… not everyone gets a happy ending

Horrible

The performance was so bad that I could not tell if the story was good of bad I’m thinking that it was bad.

Painfully naive

Generally, a good narrator can elevate a mediocre story to something quite enjoyable. This narrator did her best, but the characters their motivations the way they express themselves were just too childish and naïve. It was really hard to continue reading or listening. Sorry I couldn't be more positive.
