About this listen

A deadly history.
A dangerous mystery.
And a dark plan coming to light.

In London, the past is never dead. It only...lies sleeping.

Martin Chorley - aka the Faceless Man - wanted for multiple counts of murder, fraud and crimes against humanity, has been unmasked and is on the run. Peter Grant, Detective Constable and apprentice wizard, now plays a key role in an unprecedented joint operation to bring Chorley to justice.

But even as the unwieldy might of the Metropolitan Police bears down on its foe, Peter uncovers clues that Chorley, far from being finished, is executing the final stages of a long term plan. A plan that has its roots in London's two thousand bloody years of history, and could literally bring the city to its knees.

To save his beloved city Peter's going to need help from his former best friend and colleague - Lesley May - who brutally betrayed him and everything he thought she believed in. And, far worse, he might even have to come to terms with the malevolent supernatural killer and agent of chaos known as Mr Punch...

Another great book in this series. I love hearing the accents as well as following the development of the plot. I can't recommend this series enough. Will be waiting for further books with eager anticipation.

Best Ever Writer/Narrator combination!

I love the Peter Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch narrated by the superb Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and this latest is no exception! I lived for 4 years in London (a long time ago now), and I wish I'd had these titles while I was there. I'd love to explore Peter Grant's London (even without the magic) while listening to Kobna's narration. Ben & him give an intimate and different perspective on that fabulous city.

Excellent

As always, the Rivers of London crew delivers a cracking story. Loved this one as much as the previous, and can’t wait to listen to the next one.

The perfect marriage of fantasy and cop show

Having finally caught up with the series, it seems like time for a review. And catching up has been brilliant. Peter Grant is easily the most entertaining protagonist in his genre, Ben Aaronovitch injects sly humour from every angle, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is easily the top narrator I've experienced on Audible and the perfect choice for this series. Start at the beginning and I guarantee enjoyment all the way through if you're a fan of the genre.

One of the best in the series. Kobna is amazing!

this is the first book in the series I listened to add an audiobook, and Kobna's performance makes me want to get the rest and restart from the beginning.

Another fantastic book. I loved it.

The ongoing struggle of Peter and Lesley and the team at the Folly continues. The story moves forward nicely with a good deal of resolution, but leaving room for the next installment.
The narration is, as always, superb.
The unique humour is as entertaining as always, although this was perhaps less humorous than some of the previous books.
If you haven't read the previous books in the Rivers of London Series, you should not start here, but this is a spectacular series. To purloin a phrase "Do yourselves a favour" and read this stuff.

I'm getting worried

A while back Audible threw me a short freebie about a weird library. wasn't my kind of thing, but stuck in traffic , you know... And thus began my biggest addiction since Barry Eisler and his John Rain series. So for months now PC Grant has been my commuting companion and I only have a single title left. What the hell will light my drive up after this? After a fascinating journey of a kind I usually flag away (Harry Potter for grown-ups? Yeah, right) how is anything else going to stack up?
