About this listen
Sarah and Adam Granatt had the perfect suburban life: a beautiful house, an adorable daughter, a baby on the way, and a once-in-a-lifetime love. They were the couple everyone envied—until Adam died.
In the wake of his death, Adam’s secrets begin to emerge. The first comes out when a woman named Candace introduces herself to Sarah as Adam’s mother. Sarah is rightfully confused: Adam had always said his mother was dead. Adam also lied about making sure Sarah, Ellie, and the new baby would be taken care of financially. The truth is there’s no money.
Candace proves she is who she says, but she admits the relationship between her and Adam was strained. Her beloved son is gone, but she can offer emotional support and, better yet, a place to stay until after the baby is born and Sarah can get back on her feet. Living in Adam’s childhood home, Sarah begins to understand the life he had before they met—the life he buried along with his relationship with his mother.
When Sarah notices Candace’s strange obsession with her, and the house begins to feel less like salvation and more like a cage, she realizes that the secrets go deeper than she ever could’ve imagined. Candace might not be the caring mother-in-law she seems… And maybe Adam had good reason to pretend that his mother was dead.

Story
On the day author Mari Morgan receives the email, she has little left to live for. The message—simple yet utterly life-changing—offers a glimmer of hope to her dismal existence. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, and if she takes it, it could change everything. Mari’s immediate sense of unease is eclipsed only by her curiosity—elicited from the supposed fan on the other end of the email. Unsatisfied despite doing her due diligence, and with no way to discern the legitimacy of the sender, Mari takes a leap of faith and replies.

About to become parents, my husband and I decided to move to my small hometown to be closer to my family. Everything was perfect until I met our new neighbor—the reason I moved away to begin with. Kelly Van Patten. She's the epitome of beauty. With her radiant blond hair, captivating blue eyes, and a smile so warm and caring, it's no wonder everyone adores her… except me. Even my husband is falling for her charm and manipulation, or worse, falling for her. When Kelly slips and accidentally shows her true colors, I realize something even worse. Does she know what I've been hiding?

Great except for the ending
I enjoyed listening to this one. It kept me intrigued and wanting to know more. The narrator did a great job. I listened at 2x the speed and was enjoyable. The only downfall I found was the very end, it left to many things up in the air. I still have lots of questions. It shouldn't prevent you from enjoying the suspense through the book though. I will try other books by this author.

👎🏻on the ending
I don’t know if this is worth the credit or not a lot of odd things and seem like it was rushed at the end
