ما يميز هذه الرواية هي طريقة محفوظ في كتابتها بأسلوب جديد و ليس مجرد سرد للأحداث من البداية للنهاية كالأسلوب الكلاسيكي ل بل ابتكر اسلوبًا مغايرًا هو اسلوب المحقق مما يدل على تنوع افكاره و ابتكاره وقدرته على إبهار المتلقي دائمًا.
