About this listen

In an exhilarating blend of adventure and international intrigue, U.S. field analyst Doc and his partner, Zita, an MI6 agent, are drawn into the harrowing world of espionage where terrorism casts its ugly shadow over innocence.

Doc and Zita are the most original characters to appear in years. London Bridge is Falling Down heralds the arrival of a new breed of lightning-paced, intelligent thriller—surprising at every twist, absorbing at every turn, and in the end, utterly unpredictable—right up to its astonishing conclusion.

Set against the backdrop of the Cold War in 1970s Europe, London Bridge is Falling Down is a spy thriller with cinematic settings that immerse readers in the proverbial mist of fog. Inspired by the author’s own experiences — not as a spy but more like a tourist until needed for surveillance — this entire series is crafted by a master wordsmith, who gives full attention to every moment, every turn f events. “Within seconds the night lost its quiet to the low thumping of feet.” The audiobook narration breathes life into this story, especially during dialogues between characters with different accents and temperament. The writing alternates between first and third language POV, an intimate eye-witness account and a detached God’s yet view of events.

A bomb explodes in an Irish pub in Dublin, and Doc — a American. government analyst — tries and find the perpetrators, Who are they? What do they want, given that no demands were made? His partner is MI6 Agent Zita. “Zita was not a typical woman. She was the sort who could thrill a man with a lick of her lips while making him feel as if he was solely responsible for the wholesale slaughter of the entire baby seal population.” She joins him to help solve this mystery as well as protect him from getting killed. Doc interferes with an attempted kidnapping of a princess, which lands him on the wanted suspect list at the Scotland Yard, while his CIA handler wants him to track down the hit list behind this string of terrorist actions possibly connected to the IRA.
