About this listen

Former military investigator turned elite security operative, Jericho McKenna, is about to face the most challenging mission of his life—protecting the woman he never stopped loving.

Rachel Franklin, a dedicated social worker with an unyielding commitment to justice, finds herself in the crosshairs of a relentless and cunning killer. Her past comes back to haunt her as someone methodically targets individuals connected to a case she worked on, resulting in the conviction and ultimate demise of a woman who now clearly has an avenging angel, ready to kill for her.

As Jericho and Rachel's paths converge once more, the sparks of their former love reignite, leaving them to grapple with emotions they thought they had buried. With the stakes higher than ever, Jericho is determined to shield Rachel from the danger. Together, they must unravel the mystery, diving deep into the twisted mind of a remorseless killer.

Each book in the Hard Justice, Texas Series is a standalone story with a thrilling mystery, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Great Story

Lone Star Showdown: Hard Justice Book 2

I have a thing for romance novels, and some people say it's because of how I've grown up, others have said it's just me. I say, everyone likes their own thing. It doesn't matter if it's a mushy love story, a historical romance, a Shifter Paranormal romance, a sci-fi romance or a militia-romance with a woman waiting for her man to come home from battle.
In this book it is a cross between the last one I said and a suspense driven romance, because they don't know who or what they are running from, but that fear or dread is always behind them. Though Jericho and Rachel broke up years ago, they never truly separated, and that is the sad truth of the story. Neither of them can see the truth right under their noses. The fear of losing the other to the killer is the biggest fear and burden they both carry around.
I look forward, to now going back and listening to the 1st book and to the coming books. Thank you so much Author Delores Fossen for sharing your writing with us.

Maverick Ops

Lone Star Showdown is the second book in the Hard Justice series. Rachel and Jericho have known each other since childhood. They were great friends and lovers for a while. Rachel is being hunted and is seeking help from Jericho and Maverick Ops. There is a lot of suspense, drama, danger and intrigue in this fabulous story. The narration by Marcus Barton was superb. His portrait of all characters was perfect. I highly recommend listening.

Danger

Someone’s after Rachel and the only person to help her is Jericho,A former boyfriend, who has special ops training.
Now it’s Jericho and his team to find out who is murdering people who are connected with a trial.
Who’s the suspect? Several people could be. Twists, danger, angst, some humor and sexy scenes. Marcus Barton, delivers a powerful performance. Very well done

This was fantastic!

Story -❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Spice -🌶🌶
Narration -⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lone Star Showdown is book #2 in the Hard Justice series. I'm fairly new to the Delores Fossen romantic suspense world, but I'm loving everything about it. Jericho and Rachel have been friends for years with a romantic past that they can't forget. Now Rachel is in the crosshairs of a killer and Jericho is determined to protect her. This second-chance, ex-military, steamy story kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

The narration by Marcus Barton (also from book #1) was so good once again. From giving voice to every character to bringing all the action, suspense, and passion, his talent is perfect for this series. Definitely a favorite narrator for me now. 5/5 stars!⭐️

Not too predictable.

The story kept me interested with the twists and turns and wasn’t too predictable in the end. The person I suspected was guilty wasn’t in the end.

Great read

Delores Fossen never disappoints with her alpha males. We all need a spike in our lives. Rachel and Jericho had chemistry from the first page of the book. The main characters brought the book together and enjoyable to read. I would recommend theis book for anyone who lives high imact alpha heros.

Danger

Great book. Revenge was the name of the game. It was deadly. The killer was well prepared. Rachel only knew of one man from her childhood that could help.

Audio contains some static. Okay plot...

I love a good suspense-y, action-packed start and this book delivers that.
At times, I felt that being shown the circumstances would’ve elevated the book—as, while it was at least semi interesting most of the time, I couldn’t help but notice this author favored a lot of ‘telling’. That does tend to dull down even the most exciting content.

So …
This was an interesting approach as … I suspect it’s intended to be romantic suspense? There’s definitely suspense … and those parts are somewhat fun & action-y and then somewhat dull because much of the parts are ‘told’ instead of ‘shown’ to the reader. The book gripped me initially, but before long, I realized I was sorta forcing myself to pay attention.

And … there was … I hesitate to say romance, as it was all so textbook. These characters are definitely angling for romance and I think I’m supposed to believe, as the reader, that they had feelings for one another … but this was poorly executed. It wasn’t shown, no ‘real feels’ were conveyed, and it was all so matter-of-fact, between the narrator’s bot-like delivery and the writer’s penchant for ‘telling’. By the time the steamy scenes occurred, I was just like, ‘Come on.’ They lacked any sort of passion or excitement or heat.

Action scenes.
Danger.
Suspense.
Pop culture references.
Humor, at times.
Vi0lence.
Unalivings.
Vengeance.

Overall:
Not a bad concept, but not executed particularly well. Perhaps with stronger writing skills it could’ve been great. Falls somewhere around 2 or 2.5 stars for me as-is. Based on this experience, probably will not read anymore from this author.

🎧 Audio:
This could’ve been a bit more of a professional production. The overall sound quality is not crystal clear, with static audible at times. As for the narrator: obviously subjective. For me, he was too robotic. His voice was pleasant enough and if it took a ‘voice acting’ approach instead of just the bot-like dictating he opted for, I expect he’d be quite good. As it stands though, I’ve heard worse, but not great.
