A sweet romance...
No promises. No fake tomorrows. That was the plan.
New city. New life. At least, that's what 19-year-old Jen Harrison believes. On the surface, she's living her dream: dancing in a prestigious dance company in Paris. But her sister's death and the mistakes she's tried to bury haunt her. She's become a pro at hiding who she truly is, and she definitely doesn't want a guy to derail her, but a one night-stand she can do. Nothing more. She definitely doesn't plan to see the sexy stranger who made her laugh for the first time in years ever again.
Girls don't walk away from Lucas Wills. Bad boy turned rock star, he's got his share of groupies. Always upfront, he doesn't promise fake tomorrows because love can destroy everything. Been there, done that. His ex not only lied to him, she stomped on his heart, used him to become famous, and almost ruined him. So, waking up alone after a night beyond his wildest imagination with a girl he just met shouldn't upset him, shouldn't inspire one of the saddest songs he's ever written, shouldn't make him want to chase after her.
When Jen, the one-night stand who got away, auditions to be a dancer in Lucas' next music video, they can't stop their growing attraction. But Jen's secrets and his ex could shatter the careers they tried so hard to build and their hearts…they will have to decide what's more important and if love is worth the fight.

This is the first time I listened to a book by Kasi Hollowell and I found her voice very soothing and with the correct intonations and I can't wait to listen to more books from her.

This novel is part YA, part NA. It has tone and themes common to YA and NA so it's hard to know what to see it as, but if I had to choose, I'd say NA because they lived independent from parents. It was about a dancer(ballerina) who falls for a rock star who was more famous than she knew. They both experienced loss and dealt with drugs in their pasts. I wasn't sure how comfortable I was with the heroine being a former drug addict since she didn't present as white, especially since we don't often humanize substance abusers who aren't white. But as a ballerina, I kind of understand it, though it didn't make it any less uncomfortable, especially from a white author.
The hero wasn't as interesting as the heroine, which for a romance isn't normally the case. But in the instance, I was actually glad I liked the heroine more, because that's often something you don't hear, liking the heroine more than the hero. It's a sweet story, especially for readers who like romance but don't love open door lover scenes. I happen to LOVE them, but I understand that's not a possibility for every single book I pick up. I adored the Paris setting and that the hero was half French and fluent in the language. It focused on character development more than romance, so it's why the tone felt very YA at times. That surprise ending though, idk, lol. But the narrator was on point. She was good at making sure the hero and heroine's voices felt different, so I knew when the change happened. Her performance was solid and made the story.
I'd read from this author again if it were in audiobook. Overall I enjoyed the book.
I received this book via Audiobook Boom from the author; it does not impact my review that was written voluntarily.

I listened to the Audible edition, Kasi Hollowell is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. She brings the characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality. She projected the emotions of the characters in her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧

I liked the writing style and it’s allusions to ballet, and luckily it wasn’t overdone, which meant that the story flowed well and quickly.
I really liked the two main characters and how they were both going through quite similar things, with Jen dealing with the death of her younger sister and Lucas dealing with the death of his best friend, and I really liked how they supported and listened to each other. Their relationship was super cute, though I will admit that Nick and Em are still my favorites. But this is undeniable instalove and a pretty fast one at that too… I mean, within 3 days of knowing each other they’re way too intense.
Now, this book really surprised me. BIG.TIME. I did not see that coming…. at all, and I still can’t quite wrap my head around what happened.
Sweet sweet love!

I loved Jen and Lucas. Their pain mirrors one another and they share a lot of the same experiences. Granted Lucas's pain more severe than Jen's because he lets the betrayals from his ex affect his judgement when it comes to his relationship with Jen. But they are so good together and liked all the time they spent together. The sort of mystery of leaked information and pictures was a trip, if not a bit predictable. It was still mind blowing a bit. This was such an enjoyable book and the narration was really good. Kasi Hollowell was outstanding. She did a great job as Jen and Lucas and I really just loved her voice as I listened to this book. I really want to listen to other books she narrates.
