About this listen

Nikki Malone’s to do list:

  • Join a sorority
  • Make new friends
  • Secure career connections
  • Find love

Nikki Malone’s life is on track. She can balance school, sports, and a thriving social life without breaking a sweat. What she can’t do is keep her heart rate from skyrocketing when Brad Matthews starts sitting next to her in class. Brad is easy going, flirtatious…and so good looking Nikki can hardly speak. Maybe that’s why she needs three friends and a thesaurus to write an AOL message and spends all her time obsessing over whether or not they’re dating. Until they really aren’t.

Years later, Nikki goes back home with a new to do list all to have Brad Matthews walk back into her life and make her wonder if the second or third time's the charm.

This was okay, but not really age appropriate … as in, these people are supposed to be in college. New adults who live on their own … yet they act more like 10 year-olds. It’s implausible for me. Am I saying that ALL 18-22 year-olds at wild and have sm3x, not at all. But this books acts as if none do. It also portrays adults as acting like hugging your friend-who-happens-to-be-a-male is … some sort of huge, relationship-advancing milestone. Nothing against any of this at all, just as I said, I find it unrealistic.

Change the setting to an elementary or middle school and their ages accordingly, and then it’d be mostly plausible. As it stands, it just isn’t for me.

New adult.
College setting.
FMC athlete (baton twirling).
Friends-to-lovers.
Very slow burn.

Not bad, per se. Just not good either. “It’s okay.” (2 or 3 stars depending on platform.)

🎧 Audio:
The narrator was decent, though she could’ve been a little less bot-like in her delivery. Voice was very pleasant and smooth and the overall sound quality was great. 4 stars.

"Adults" who seem to live/act like tweens at best.

Nikki & Brad have mutually wanted each other since the beginning of college their Junior year. Both didn’t speak up and act on it. Nikki is a Majorette and Brad is an academic scholar, both at college scholarship. Once Nikki finally asks Brad out he denies her because he would be busy with family. Over the course of the whole book it was push and pull between them. I loved how Nikki picked herself up with the help of her besties and would move forward. I wish this was a Dual POV book so we can really understand Brady’s POV.

This is a slow burn, friends to lovers, small town, right person-wrong time, second chance story between Nikki and Brad who meet junior year of college and spans over a decade. You can feel the tension from them from the beginning of the page and I really loved the nostalgia feel. Beautiful, raw love story with a little spice sprinkled in.

Really enjoyed revisiting this story again through audio! Casey did a great job with the narration.

Highly enjoyed this story!
