About this listen

Georgie and Darcy are finally on their honeymoon in Kenya's Happy Valley, but murder crashes the party in this all-new installment in the New York Times best-selling series.

I was so excited when Darcy announced out of the blue that we were flying to Kenya for our extended honeymoon. Now that we are here, I suspect he has actually been sent to fulfill another secret mission. I am trying very hard not to pick a fight about it, because after all, we are in paradise! Darcy finally confides that there have been robberies in London and Paris. It seems the thief was a member of the aristocracy and may have fled to Kenya. Since we are staying in the Happy Valley - the center of upper-class English life - we are well positioned to hunt for clues and ferret out possible suspects.

Now that I am a sophisticated married woman, I am doing my best to sound like one. But crikey! These aristocrats are a thoroughly loathsome sort enjoying a completely decadent lifestyle filled with wild parties and rampant infidelity. And one of the leading lights in the community, Lord Cheriton, has the nerve to make a play for me. While I am on my honeymoon! Of course, I put an end to that right off.

When he is found bloodied and lifeless along a lonely stretch of road, it appears he fell victim to a lion. But it seems that the Happy Valley community wants to close the case a bit too quickly. Darcy and I soon discover that there is much more than a simple robbery and an animal attack to contend with here in Kenya. Nearly everyone has a motive to want Lord Cheriton dead and some will go to great lengths to silence anyone who asks too many questions. The hunt is on! I just hope I can survive my honeymoon long enough to catch a killer....

Not all that exciting

I suppose I am still not over the fact that there is a new narrator. But the voices she uses kind of get on my nerves. I find myself not ever paying much attention to the story line.
But, when I was listening to the story line is was quite boring. Not much of a listen this time.

Love This entire series!

So thrilled to have a couple more bucks in this series. All the characters are so enjoyable. The narration is spectacular with all the different voices. Creative and entertaining and funny. Rhys Bowen does it again!!

Great story!

Am missing the narrator Katherine. Jasmine is good but after being spoiled by Katherine will take awhile to covert. Thank you!

Not my favorite

I love Darcy and Georgie, but this wasn't my favorite adventure. I also miss Katherine Kellgren very much; I still haven't adjusted to the new narrator.

Just perfect!

I loved this new book in the series. The characters were introduced in just the right pacing so I can get to remember them and follow them properly. Did not want to stop listening.
I especially want to point out how great Jasmine Blackborow narration is. I did listen at 1.25 speed but I finally felt that justice was done to the voice of Darcy. He was just perfect.

Narration much improved over previous book in seri

After harshly reviewing the narration of the previous book, I am excited to note that the narrator has been able to step up her abilities and meet the expectations set by Katherine. Well done.

More Fun

This is happy story in many ways: there's a newness due to the unusual settings that is highly useful if you can remember to keep your eyes open to see..

Sly humor.

This series is wonderful. And Rhys Bowen made the descriptions of the surroundings and people almost leap off the page. May Darcy and Georgie solve mysteries together until they're old and gray.

WaKenyan Muzungus

I enjoyed this story, tho narration still grates. Pronunciation is still not researched! Kenya is not pronounced with a short ‘e’, but rather a long ‘ee’, by the old colonials. Many of them still say it that way!
As for the shenanigans - watch White Mischief, that’ll tell you something of their lives. Charles Dance has never seemed the same to me!
The excesses didn’t stop much into our time. A friend went to the coast as guest of Lady Diana Broughton’s daughter, and his description of dinner his first night there is deliciously delightful- a long table filled with candles and flowers, and the hostess presided over it all with all her mother’s decadent jewels and wore only a kanga and bare feet…!
