About this listen

From the author of The Coincidence of Coconut Cake comes a novel about a frustrated wife and mother who hatches a scheme to reignite her marriage - and risks everything in a gamble she hopes is a sure bet.

When Milwaukee-area wife and mother MJ Boudreaux notices her husband, Chris, seems more interested in the casino than her, she's bothered that she isn't more upset. She picks up poker as a way for them to spend more time together - and reignite their marital flame.

Although the game doesn't give her the quality time with Chris that she'd hoped, MJ finds she has a knack for it. Increasingly unhappy at home, she turns to the felt top of the poker table for comfort. Intoxicated with newfound freedom, MJ begins spending more time at the gambling tables and less with her family, finally carving out for herself a place outside her role of wife and mother.

After a string of great wins, MJ finds herself in Vegas, attracting the attention of a certain magnetic poker star. But when she's forced to choose between her family and her exciting new lifestyle, the stakes may be higher than she thought, and she'll have to play her hand carefully...or risk losing it all.

I wasn’t sure about this book as it was getting started but I ended up really enjoying it. Love is complicated and pride can get in the way of happiness. Even though it is fiction, it felt like it could be based on reality. Plus I really want to try that pie!

Grew to love

I kept getting mad at the female character not saying what was on her mind. In general, that really irks me & I feel is a large reason there are so many communication issues these days. People assume the other person just gets it. By the end of the book I found myself feeling like she didn't deserve to fix things, but I am a sucker for a good ending.

I struggled at first

I loved listening to this book, halfway through I couldn’t stop and was listening every moment I got. Almost took a shower with my headphones on because I had to know what happened next. The book is great at describing how life is never perfect and even when we think things are going good we need to communicate each other’s needs. Would definitely recommend.

Super cute!

Loved the story and narrator. Another wonderful story by Amy Reichert. Only downside is that the lemon pie recipe isn't printable...

Great Story

This was my least favorite. of her books. Troubles exist in any relationship, but that almost all if the responsibility of the issues fall on MJ frustrated me. They both got into a rut and stopped talking about what truly matters, so why did it all fall on her shoulders? Neither was all right or all wrong & yet he filed divorce papers so easily I didn't care if they'd get back together. And why is it always the wife who grovels when she isn't the only one who was wrong? By the time the HEA occurred I didn't care and it seemed all false.

Love this author, except

Really enjoyed the story about this couple. It reminded me a little bit of my father who used to love poker tournaments, before moving, he recently passed suddenly & this was the first time I read a book that reminded me of him but didn´t make me cry or sad, so that is a plus.

Great story

OMG-IF YOU HAVE AN ANAPHYLACTIC ALLERGY, YOU NEED TO CARRY AN EPI PEN!!!!!
It’s a cute story, but as a person with a deadly allergy. I can’t understand why this woman who goes anaphylactic counts on Benadryl and not an Epipen. It’s just irresponsible.

OMG- EPI PEN!!!!!

It was interesting to hear the main characters troubles. It is almost like the life of any couples that have been married 25 plus years.

Susan Erickson is my favorite narrator ever. She does an amazing job with the story and all the characters voices. You can easily visualize each person as they are speaking. I love her!

I would recommend this book to any married couples.

I can relate!
