About this listen

Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night she buys a lottery ticket on a whim, and, to her astonishment, she wins!

In a flash Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships - nope, now she's suddenly talking about renting a yacht and basking in the spotlight at school! But then rumors start flying, and random people begin asking her for loans. Suddenly Maddie finds that she isn't sure whom she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen. Her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo doesn't seem to be aware of her big news - and, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. What would happen if the one person she still trusts were to find out?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

I had just finished another book by this author right before starting this one and I had high Hope's. Unfortunately, the story felt pretty slow, and was thus kind of boring. The reader's voice was grating, and all the male characters sounded extremely annoying and mostly the same so I hated listening to any of their dialogue. overall I was pretty underwhelmed.

A little disappointing

When I just heard the first chapter, I was thinking this book might not be as good as others by Kasie West that I loved. I was wrong. As the story developed, it was not as much a love story as disturbing reality. The main character, Madeleine, finds herself suspecting and mistrusting everybody around her. This happened in my own life, so I could relate to the issues. It bothered me a lot to the point I thought I might have to stop reading to the end. Best scene was when the lost dentures were found in the zoo.

Disturbingly real

Lucky in Love by Kasie West feels like it’s her first book—to much minutiae dragged it out. Still fun, but not as much as her other books.

Not the best book

If this would’ve been my very first book by West, I would’ve absolutely loved it but, I wasn’t and I didn’t. The story had some merit and the performance by Bouvard kept me going. Overall I did enjoy the book enough to finish it, I was a very light read and the romance was PG. West is a very talented writer and I’m looking forward to read/listen to more books from her.

I would've enjoyed it more if the female narrator hadn't made the 18 year old male characters sounds like they belonged in grade school.

Sweet story, not my fave narrator

I had a hard time with this one. The characters were fine but there wasn't enough relationship development in this book. That is usually the opposite with her books.
I just found this book a little boring.
I also had a really hard time listening to some of the voices. Seth's voice made him sound like a kid with a cold. To me, everything "he" said usually came out kind of corny.
Trina's voice also bugged me. It sounded very snotty all the time. I would not be able to change my voice for so many characters so I am not trying to criticize the reader, but it was hard to listen to. I was really looking forward to this one but this isn't one I will re listen to. I loved "p.s. I like you", so if you are looking for a good one...

Normally love her books

Would you try another book from Kasie West and/or Laurence Bouvard?

This was my first Kasie West book and I can't help feeling a little underwhelmed. I'd been looking forward to this one for a while because that cover featured a really cute Asian guy and from his last name I guessed he was of Vietnamese ancestry.

The cover really fooled me a I guess. If I took one look at that cover(like I did) I would have assumed this book relied heavily on romance. The romance is so little of the book and it's really more about how differently people change when a young girl gets lucky from winning the lottery.

I was a little disappointed because I was super excited picking up a YA contemporary romance with an Asian LI, who was fun and hot because they never get a chance to be that in mainstream media, but this really wasn't that. If you wanna read books about cute Asian boys I'd suggest anything by Cindy Pon or The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon. The only thing I really liked about Seth was that he reminded me of dumb but lovable Josh Chan from C***y Ex girlfriend. Seth was so darn dense it was actually kind of cute but the narrator did a really bad job at capturing his voice. She narrated everyone else decently but her male voices are just okay.

Overall this is a cute, light, fluffy summer read but if you're looking for more plot, this won't be the book for you.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

A male narrator to do the male voices.

Was a miss for me

It was over the top amazing. Definitely will get more people to read. Has a great plot, and amazing character to conflict with that.

They way it all went together on the end.
