About this listen

James Grady revolutionized the political thriller with his first novel, Six Days of the Condor. Now Grady breaks fresh thriller territory with Mad Dogs, a brilliant novel launched from a totally original creation: the CIA's secret insane asylum for "retired" agents.

Five deranged CIA killers, all of them dependent on their meds and deep in the woods of Maine, are forced to break out of the asylum when someone murders their psychiatrist and frames them for the deed. Crazy and traumatized by their experiences in the CIA, they operate under somewhat skewed perceptions of reality. Their training, however, has prepared them to survive in an unfriendly world, even if that world is the Boston-to-Washington corridor as they chase down the real killer.

Suspenseful, fast, and edgy, as well as funny and humane, Mad Dogs is a stunning novel of political commentary and a tour-de-force of contemporary literary style.

most entertaining

i thoroughly enjoyed this book. it let me know just how smart some people really are. never under estimate the power of the mind. at times it was very funny. once the brain has learned somthing it's there for good. The five mad dogs proved that, and their loyalty.

Simply the best!

The reviewer who described the reader as that of a wannabe stand-up comic narrating, is akin to accepting Eddie Murphy as an undertaker! This was a brilliantly-narrated production. A few times, I actually teared up while listening. The book is humorous, poignant, exciting and downright entertaining. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars, as it will surely be listened to again. Bravo!

Not funny, but very good

I really enjoyed this book once I realized that it was not humorous, as described. The story of "crazy" CIA agents on the loose contains the sub-stories of the characters, and these are sad and depressing but worthy short stories in themselves. It is a wild mix of Hiassen and LeCarre that is hard to describe, but one of the most enjoyable listens I've had in a long time.

Enjoyable

James Grady is a great writer. The dialogue in this book was interesting. Considering all the characters were crazy... I guess you could say it was spot on.

This is a

Somebody should have told the narrater that this is not a comedy. I endured about 30 minutes and can't get past his trying to turn it into a slapstick standup act.

Sorry.

This is one I'll have to read on paper.
