Editorial reviews

Sweet clover, cut grass, cornfields, baseball, pretty girls, and the yearning in a young man’s heart…this is W. P. Kinsella territory. In Magic Time, Kinsella, best known for his novel Shoeless Joe (adapted into the movie Field of Dreams), tells the story of Mike Houle, a young second baseman with professional aspirations, playing semi-pro ball in the peaceful but not-quite-perfect small town of Grand Mound, Iowa. The storytelling is classic: vivid metaphors, plenty of humor, and occasional digressions into the mysterious realms of love and fear. Veteran performer Brian Holsopple’s voice is clear and engaging with a touch of gravel. The listener may feel like he’s sitting on a front porch at sunset listening to a fond memory of a life-changing summer.

A Ball player with baggage, a town with a secret that could launch a thousand Syfi channel Saturday movies, but a somewhat two dimensional romance.

Kind of The Lottery meets Children of Corn, meets bits of the Matrix but not as sinister.

Good narration of another one of WP Kinsella's baseball stories. The narrator did a good job with the various characters from the story.

Good performance of a WP Kinsella classic
