About this listen

Lady Sophia has seen enough death and loss in the military hospital to last her a lifetime. So, when the wildly handsome Major Anthony Wycylff, whom she's been caring for these past months, is given no hope of survival, she grants him his fondest wish - her promise to marry.

Then the blasted man recovers!

The only thing that kept Anthony from giving into death was Sophia's promise to marry him. Now he's determined to claim his bride. The right flanking attack will bring him closer to her manor, her parlor, and then her bedroom. Terms of surrender should quickly follow.

But the only terms Sophia will hear are terms of love.

Jade Lee, a USA TODAY best seller, has two passions (well, except for her family, but that's a given). She loves dreaming up stories and playing racquetball, not always in that order. When her pro-racquetball career ended with a pair of very bad knees, she turned her attention to writing. An author of more than 30 romance novels, she's decided that life can be full of joy without ever getting up from her chair.

Good historical romance with great hero.

Any additional comments?

Major Wyclyff's Campaign by Jade Lee is an old fashioned historical romance that just received an awesome audio upgrade. Originally released in 2001 the story centers around Lady Sophia who used to spend her spare time tending to wounded soldiers in the hospital until her favorite patient dies. This particular soldier was Major Anthony Wyclyff who Sophia would spend hours talking with about her fears, dreams, and frustration with the aristocracy. On his deathbed he asked her to marry him and she agreed, thinking he will not recover.

Lady Sophia then gives away her dowry, puts herself permanently "on the shelf," and retires to the country to live a "free" life with her spinster Aunt. Soon after, the Major shows up to pick up his fiancée on his way to India. Needless to say, Sophia is shocked the Major is alive, but also upset that he is now ruining her grand plans for freedom. The rest of the story is Sophia being stubborn and putting the poor Major through one "test" after another, including graveling.

I listened to the Audible version of this book narrated by Pearl Hewitt, who did an outstanding job. Pearl provided distinct and consistent voices for all characters throughout. She also had great intonation and pace, conveying urgency in all the right places. I received a copy of this audio in exchange for an unbiased review.

Disgusting.

No charm. Very ragged non-plot. No character development. Highly inappropriate and unnecessary physical scenes. Barely one-dimensional. Waste of time and money. Returning for refund at once.
