About this listen

Paul Martin joined the army to escape the harsh conditions at home. When orders send him to the Carolinas for training maneuvers, he doesn’t know what to expect. He didn’t expect to find strong friends or the girl of his dreams.

But with trouble at home, the war raging in Europe, and the possibility of the United States being pulled into the conflict, the future looms uncertain.

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. I especially loved the Christian element and the fact that Paul and Donna (young adults) were willing to put God first in their lives and above their desires. I like that Paul didn't give in to peer pressure regarding alcohol... and also that he honored his dad no matter how unfairly he mistreated Paul and ultimately forgave him. I never saw the twist towards the end coming, but it was great. I have come to enjoy this author's work.

The narrative was well done, love the South Carolina accent.

Heartwarming story

I have never been interested in books about war so I hesitated I trying this book. The author handles the war part minimally and accurately to make this a very pleasant visit to another time and place. I was very impressed with the way the author portrayed this genre and will read more from both the author and on the topic.
I love Paul. He has such a strong sense of integrity and it’s even more impressive because of the way he grew up. Donna won me over very quickly too. She’s level headed and kind. Both had a strong sense of duty to God and trusted in His plans for them.
The quotes at the beginning of each chapter were very relevant and a good lead into the next part of the story.
This is a very sweet, clean, nonviolent book that I would recommend for any young teen to adult.

Maneuvers

I LOVED this sweet story of committed love to each other and their determination to remain committed to their Savior. The setting for this book is during WWII and the trials facing young love!!!

Christian Historical Romance

This was a very detailed story about WWII and the maneuvers that were part of the US soldiers' training. And of course, there's a lovely romance set in the middle of this uncertain time, and I loved his Captain America persona.
The narrator was calm and had great cadence. He could work on his women and children's voices, but overall I enjoyed the entirety of this audiobook! (And I learned a lot too!)

A call to remember

This is a sweet romance and Paul and Donna are wonderful characters. It was a pleasure to listen to this book. But the thing that really touched me was the way Ms. Hopkins wove in the history of the maneuvers, army life, the stress of the war not only for the soldiers, but for their families and special girls. It was moving to remember what so many sacrificed to keep our freedom in this country. It was an encouragement to those of us in the present also need to fight for our freedoms. This was a very inspirational story and a timely reminder.

Brad Leaf did an excellent presentation, making the characters and story realistic and interesting.

I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Excellent Christian Romance

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This story was awesome. The History was excellent and the author always includes Biblical touches in the character interactions. Love the very realistic trials and tribulations of a relationship to a couple involved in the Military life. The author presented a very well thought out story of the battle times in the 1940s and the couple's romance. This period story depicted real life during those times. Again Janice Cole Hopkins provides the reader/listener with a quality story. The narrator did a great job with both the male and female characters and their personalities.
