Publisher's summary

From the best-selling author of The Shadow of the Wind comes the intriguing mystery that started it all....

"We all have a secret buried under lock and key in the attic of our soul. This is mine."

Fifteen-year-old Oscar Drai meets the strange Marina while he's exploring an old quarter of Barcelona. She leads Oscar to a cemetery, where they watch a macabre ritual that occurs on the last Sunday of each month. At exactly 10 o'clock in the morning, a woman shrouded in a black velvet cloak descends from her carriage to place a single rose on an unmarked grave.

When Oscar and Marina decide to follow her, they begin a journey that transports them to a forgotten postwar Barcelona - a world of aristocrats and actresses, inventors and tycoons - an reveals a dark secret that lies waiting in the mysterious labyrinth beneath the city streets.

Carlos Ruiz Zafon's haunting Marina has long been a cult classic in Spain and is now an international best seller.

Thrilling

Such a creative, thrilling, hopeless romantic novel. I’m a big fan of other Ruiz Zafon novels and this one didn’t disappoint!

Beautifully written and narrated

I cannot say enough about Ruíz Zafón’s prose - it’s just simply exquisite. He elevates the Spanish language and provides a beautiful description of Barcelona, the one he knew.

Zafon classic

The gothic takes of Barcelona with unrequited love and beauty- it’s a great story as told by on of the best writers of this generation that left us too soon .

Zafon in my memory

A great writer capable of moving your feelings and make your heart tremble. Gone too soon, but we still have his writings, like this one, Marina, supposedly written for the youth... but I'm almost 80 and I'm moved and almost in tears. Not for reading at night, difficult to sleep with the emotions he was capable to arouse.

Excelente libro pero. ….
