Publisher's summary
Would you kill your last friend to save his soul?
Memento Mori is Latin for "Remember to Die" and nobody needs to remind Elizabeth Dee about death. There are far too many enemies seeking her life at any given time. Good thing she has the "Saint" of killers on her side, the gunfighter Orrin Porter Rockwell, because she needs all the help she can get fulfilling her mission to help the immortal magus John Dee on his quest for eternal peace.
But what if she doesn't want her mentor, friend, and even her great, great, great (you get the idea) grandfather to die? Can she let him go? Or even worse--kill him, so that he can find rest and escape the clutches of the nefarious Count of St. Germain? She isn't sure she can do that yet. She wants to learn magic and fulfill her destiny--not end her teacher's life.
Memento Mori is an action-packed Gaslamp fantasy in the vein of classic pulp fiction and Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns. If you like magical battles, larger-than-life characters, and witty humor, then you’ll love David J. West’s gripping tale.

This weird western may have had magic, but it played out as dry as an ordinary western. When magic is used or people are killed, it’s written and narrated in very emotionless, matter of fact fashion. The setting and characters are also colorless, and the plot was aimless. Further, this wasn’t a story as much as the first skirmish in a battle with a not yet revealed villain. Apparently, the story continues in another novella. I, however, will not be moving on.
