Publisher's summary

Three things about Justin Roberts:

  1. He’s a bully.
  2. Our relationship is toxic.
  3. He’s the only one who knows my secret.

A year ago, I woke in the morgue with a note in my hand telling me that I’m a vampire. I need blood or I’ll start killing people. Lucky for me, Justin has been sneaking into my bedroom and feeding me blood for a year, and the only price I have to pay for it is putting up with his cruel snipes and my unwanted feelings for him.

I just can’t figure out why he keeps coming back.

But all that changes when I’m offered a full-ride scholarship to Justin’s mysterious school, the elite Blackburn Academy, where I might finally learn about vampires. About myself. All I have to do is pass the grueling entrance trials, and the scholarship will be mine. Problem is, Justin doesn’t want me anywhere near his elite school and rich friends. He’s vowed to sabotage me.

Justin may have been feeding me blood for a year, but he doesn’t know who he’s up against.

But, Blackburn Academy is more than it seems. I’ll be facing more than what Justin Roberts alone can dish out.

Will competing in the trials be the new beginning I’m hoping for, or will it end my undead existence?

This book was previously published under the title: A Bite at the Cherry (Bite Me Series) Blackburn Academy: Entrance Trials. Recommended for 16 and up.

Slow start changing into a good story

It takes patience to listen to a story for almost half the book just to begin to get interesting. I consider the first part a lot of fluff.

That said, once you get to the middle, the story starts to catch on. By the end of book one, you're ready to start the next book.

Let's hope the 2nd book leaves the fluff elsewhere.

A Enticing Start To This Delicious PNR Series

This book has an engaging story line that will keep you focused and invested. I loved January and thought she was an amazing heroine. Realistic, spunky, sarcastic, smart, kind and fierce, she is someone you would love to be friends with because she has a heart of gold and she is genuine. Justin will pull your emotions in different directions. You will find yourself on the fence as what seems like his obvious affection and desire for January is clouded by secrets, evasions, a bad attitude and hurtful actions that he takes against her. Is he friend or is he foe? Only time will tell as the story unfolds. Drama, twists, secrets, danger, humor, angst, emotional turmoil, passion and romance are woven throughout this book and will keep you needing more. Included is a vast and stellar cast of supporting characters that help round out the book, while adding so much to it. Many of whom I would love to see get their own books. I had previously read an ebook copy of this release and loved it, so the audiobook had a lot to live up to. I am so happy to say that it surpassed my expectations. The narrator delivered an amazing performance that was like whipped cream on pie. Sure the pie is perfectly delicious without the whipped cream but we all know the whipped cream makes it more special and just better. This book is only the first in a series and as such it ends on a very light cliffhanger. In my you could totally enjoy this as a standalone, as it wraps up with a happy for now. I myself want to delve so much deeper into this enticing world and am already craving book two.

Great story 📖💖

This audiobook keeps you constantly wanting to know what is going on . This story has supernatural people, unexplainable events, and people. Romance, adventure, mystery, suspense, and a great girl named January who ends up in a tragic accident and who is told shes a vampire and told to call a number to get blood weekly for $80 every time she given these bags of blood and shes meets a guy named Justin who flips her world even more upside down by the minute/ day. I believe that this book is continued up with atleast three other books but so far none are recorded yet that are showing up on audible so, if you enjoy this book and would like to listen to more of this series than please search up this author's name with the title of this book and ask her to get these books recorded and how much you enjoyed her story.

Great Start in this New Series

January wakes up dead and discovers she needs to drink blood regularly or she will kill somebody. She meets Justin who helps her in obtaining her blood feedings. But there are many with secrets and they won’t tell her. Very good storyline and characters development. A few Hitchcock twists, plenty of action and a bit of teenage romance.

Paranormal Private School Prep

A young woman wakes up to find a note in her hand explaining that she's a vampire and providing a phone number she should call to obtain blood, but before she can meet her hook up, a young man convinces her she should feed off him instead.
This story is a weird cross between a classic competition/rite of passage story and a mean kids vs the poor kids school drama. Although it's always there in the background, there's very little fangs and blood sucking involved - and no garlic, stakes or fear of running water. It's also a series, so if you prefer your books neatly tied up in a bow at the end, you're going to be very disappointed. Although a lot of questions get tied up at the end, there are some ENORMOUS questions left to be answered in the next volume. Kind of like the end of a season in your favourite teen angst TV series.
Having said that, I liked this one. The entrance competition coaching crew are kind of fun and the plot moves along at a reasonable pace. The characters, even the hot, necessary and very obnoxious Justin, are interesting and complex and there are enough secrets to keep you working to unravel the truth - well into the next book and beyond.
If you're a fan of YA stories about paranormal teens facing normal teen drama, this is an enjoyable one.

supernaturals

I really liked this story but will say this book dragged a bit. I understand it was laying out the backstory and introducing all the characters but it didnt really get great until the last 1/4 of the book and audible does not have the next 2 books in the series available!!! :-(
it is definitely worth the read once the other books in the series are available. This book leaves you hanging and wanting more as the story had just gotten really good!!

A great vampire story with an academy entrance.

One thing i enjoyed was how it built up to the Blackburn Academy, January's story leading up to the academy was full of interesting characters. Justin had his moments, in the beginning he was an okay characters, but then when January is offered a chance at the academy, he shows his true colors and how he wants to keep her his and hidden. Very excited to see what the next book brings.

Enthralling story

I loved this first audiobook in the Bite Me series. You soon find yourself immersed in the struggles and intrigue that is January’s life. From living in a condemned house with an alcoholic, drug addicted mother, to getting hit by a truck and waking up a vampire; she takes on all challenges thrown at her and makes the best she can of the situations she finds herself in. Justin is a complex character, one that at times you both love and hate. He is caught in a life that to outsiders seems to be idiotically privileged but mysteries and secrets surround his life. Their relationship, like their lives, is convoluted and filled with surprises. The Bad Boys Club are a great set of characters that add a sense of humour to the story and you can not help but like them. The mystery of the Academy will keep you wondering and the intrigue, twists, threats and romance will keep you pinned to the pages. The narrator of the audiobook does a great job of bringing the story to life and giving the characters individual voices. Her pace is just right and she brings out the tension and emotion in the story well. This is an enthralling audiobook that leaves you wanting the next in the series.
