About this listen

Title: Mind’s Awakening
Book I of The Mind-Touch Cycle
When Kelan di’Rase—fisherman’s son turned Imperial Academy novice—discovers that his quiet talent for telekinesis conceals a far rarer gift, the world he thought he understood reshapes itself overnight. Within stone lecture-halls scented with ink and candle-wax, Kelan learns to see the currents of flesh and bone, to knit wounds closed with a thought…or still a heartbeat with the same ease.
Such power attracts as many enemies as mentors. Hounded by jealous classmates, guided by the enigmatic Master Zujan, Kelan flees south-gate politics for the wind-scoured North, where winter clans feast beneath aurora-lit skies—and where rumor speaks of Vorannis, the Wolf of the Steppe, mustering an army no keep can withstand.
On frost-bitten ramparts Kelan faces the price of mastery: wield mercy or ruin, save the woman who has claimed his guarded heart, or watch a frontier town burn. In one shattering moment he silences an invasion…but the echo of that choice brands him a living legend—and a threat no throne can ignore.

Why readers can’t put it down
A magic system you’ll feel in your bones – Telekinesis isn’t just force‐throwing objects; Kelan learns to mend muscle fiber, still blood flow, and redirect the iron in a thousand beating hearts.
Intricate world-building, clan by clan – From Imperial lecture-halls that smell of vellum and lamp-oil to aurora-lit mead halls of the northern tribes, each culture’s politics, cuisine, and rituals of power unfold in living color.
A hero balanced on a knife-edge – Kelan’s gift makes him physician and executioner in the same breath. His every victory demands a reckoning—both within and without.
Bittersweet triumphs, earned the hard way – No deus-ex-machina rescues here; each battle, each healed wound, is paid for in discipline, sacrifice, and sleepless nights of doubt.
Romance that grows from shared danger – When arrow-swift Astrid defends the walls by Kelan’s side, their bond roots in sweat, snow, and whispered hopes—then blooms into something neither power nor prophecy can easily sever.
Perfect for fans of
L. E. Modesitt Jr.’s Recluce sagas, Brandon Sanderson’s meticulous magics, and Robin Hobb’s deeply human heroes.

Desperately needs a competent editor. The novel suffers from continuity errors that get more numerous and obvious later in the book. Characters have significant changes in the background story such as losing a mother only to have the "lost" mother suddenly appear as a major character. Similarly, an important traveling companion and mentor suddenly vanishes at a pivotal point in the story and is never heard from or discussed again. The Emperor is spoken of in awed terms as is his dowager sister only to be replaced in terms of importance by some "King" who was never spoken of before. These are obviously problems and easily corrected. They mar an otherwise excellent story. I still look forward to reading the next book. But, somebody please get this author an editor!

Great story, excellent prose.
