About this listen

In Act III of Newbery Medalist Cynthia Voigt’s Mister Max trilogy, the solutioneer sets off to rescue his missing parents!

Ever since Max’s parents were spirited away on a mysterious ship, he has longed to find them.

He’s solved case after case for other people in his business as “solutioneer”. And he’s puzzled out the coded messages sent by his father. He doesn’t know exactly what’s happened, but he knows his parents are in danger - and it’s up to Max to save them.

Max and his friends (and a few old foes) don disguises and set sail on a rescue mission. It will take all of Max’s cleverness and daring to outmaneuver the villains that lie in wait: Power-hungry aristocrats, snake-handling assassins, and bombardier pastry chefs.

And behind the scenes, a master solutioneer is pulling all the strings...Has Max finally met his match?

A most delightful series with a rousing finish!

Cynthia Voigt's three book series about a twelve-year-old boy left unexpectedly on his own to earn his way in the world while he tries to find his missing parents is a rocking good tale about the abilities and resourcefulness of children coming of age. I am quite pleased that I didn't have a wait between each book but was able to read the tale as a whole. I couldn't have stood having to wait as the tension of the story built in each volume and young Max was presented with more and more difficult problems for which to find solutions, the most difficult being the solution to the problem of rescuing his kidnapped parents. Throughout, Mr. Max, the Solutioneer, proved what his father always said but apparently never believed, that twelve was the perfect age for a boy to be independent and make his way in the world. it was a rollicking good read with tension and uncertainty and danger and even the threat of death if the Solutioneer didn't see the whole of the matter and get everyone to play their parts keeping the reader turning pages and the listener unwilling to turn story off.

Paul Boehner did a splendid job of narrating, performing the different voices most authentically. There was nary a stumble from one volume to the next, just a flowing of the that took us from beginning to end knowing who was who by the voice Boehmer developed for each character.

I found this to be another of Cynthia Voigt's engaging series. she just gets better and never leaves the reader/listener disappointed or let down.
