About this listen

From Spur Award-winning author Charles G. West comes a blistering tale of the American West, where guns are the law, good men are outnumbered - and sudden death is a way of life....

Massacre in Montana

Raised among the Blackfoot, John Hawk is a valuable asset to the US Army. As a military scout at Fort Ellis, he is able to cross the line between two worlds - and help keep the peace. But when he disobeys a direct order from his commander, Hawk is immediately dismissed from his post. That was the army’s first mistake.

The second was losing track of a small mule train en route to Helena. At the request of his former lieutenant, Hawk leaves his cabin on the Boulder River to help find the missing party. The mule train, it appears, was ambushed by a savage gang of outlaws. Most of the travelers were murdered. Only a few survived to tell the tale. And now it’s up to Hawk to stalk the killers across the lawless Montana territory - alone.

No backup. No calvary. No mercy....

a true hearted western

this book had me captivated by the end of chapter one. the main character toes the line between a realistic relatable person, and a beyond belief hero. the story is engaging with equal amounts of heart and action. makes me sad the rest of the series isn't one audible yet.

Above Average Western

This fictional western tale follows a US Cavalry scout on a journey to apprehend an outlaw gang that has murdered and robbed a group of Quaker immigrants. As in most action oriented stories, the protagonist is cast as an overly puritanical super hero spreading good deeds and without vice. At the same time, the story spares the reader of any romantic mush - it remains focused on the action. Montana Territory kept me engaged throughout, and I looked forward to each chapter. Narration fit the story and made for an enjoyable listening experience.

Montana Territory

This is an excellent western. I normally like books that are in a series but I tried this one. I like the way Hawk handles things. There is a good storyline and the right amount of action to keep it interesting.

Great free book

This was a great western. I like when they explain how the people actually lived. What they ate, how they got food and water, etc. This explain the guy’s job where he lived how he traveled around what he did on a daily basis, etc. The storyline was very interesting. The characters were decently developed, and the story was good overall. Highly recommend.

action with a purpose

meaningful gunslinging with great tracking skills. virtue has its rewards as does vice. nice clean plot and good character development. pleasure to listen while hiking on a trail, even on a trail in the eastern part of the US.

A Good Western

This book is about a Calvary scout, named John Hawk, whom takes on a personnel mission of "settling" up with a group of outlaws that murdered and robbed a group of Quakers

Hawk has a way of doing things his way, don't really consider him the hero nor an anti hero, just a regular type guy for the time frame and how he lives. He tries to help all when he can, but isn't going to be taken advantage of either.

The narrator does a good job and kept me captivated from the first chapter.

Western Justice!

John Hawk, a military scout out of Fort Ellis. Came upon a massacre on a bluff of a bunch of Quakers who were heading toward a new home, money in their saddlebags to build a church; 28 men, women, and children left for the buzzards, and six survivors leaped to the river to escape. It came to Hawk to find these killers and bring them to justice, one way or another. This is a very good series. I love the characters and the narrator.

Good story, but poor reader.

The reader was not good. He made everyone have the same deflection in their voices. His reading made the story almost boring.
