About this listen

Join one of America's leading theologians in exploring a question of timeless importance: What does it mean to lead a good life?

Your professor for this provocative 24-lecture course is Kenneth R. Himes, O.F.M. (PhD, Duke University), an award-winning author and professor of theology at Boston College. Under his expert guidance, you will explore the following questions:

  • How does the Catholic theological tradition enable us to interpret moral experience?
  • What does it mean to be a moral person in light of a theological understanding of the human situation?
  • What resources are available to the Catholic community for the formation of conscience and wise discernment?

First, you will explore the meaning of moral theology generally and then examine how moral theology conceives of freedom, character, conscience, sin, and conversion. Finally, you will explore how to use the Bible, reason, natural law, ecclesial context, and the Church's teaching office to inform moral theology.

In these lectures, you will learn to translate your religious beliefs into values and actions. Fr. Himes’ course uses the best ideas from Catholic moral theology to help you make the most important choices of your life. You will become a more reflective person who is better able to assist others in moral discernment.

This course is part of the Learn25 collection.

a voice to keep you engaged

As the author reads his work, he manages to convey his own lively interest in the subject as well as his appreciation for people who contribute to the ongoing dialogue about the good life. He presents Catholic thought without an attitude of superiority or condescension. His examples are quite memorable. I really wish this book was in kindle form as well!!!

Great introduction... Look forward to more!

I look forward to delving into more material by Father Himes. So I hope Audible will carry more of his works. This lecture series was a great introduction to the fundamentals of moral theology, about which I'm sure much more could be said. I l'm sure I'll listen to the complete series again to pick up on things that didn't sink in the first time. A regret I have is that the publishers would not provide me with a copy of the study guide that comes with this lecture series for free when you buy the audio from their website.
