About this listen

I’m Emmy Brittle and I’m one of Rainy’s best friends. Brielle’s our other bestie. I’m the new member of the group since they’ve been besties since they were born and I joined them in the fourth grade. I was placed in their group with a guy named Hank Martin.
They apparently hate Hank because he terrorized Rainy the year before. He always seemed like a really sweet guy to me, but they were adamant that I needed to stay far away from him. They made it their mission to protect me from him. I never did understand why, but I went along with it.
Hank disappeared from town right after graduation and never came back. I don’t even know where he went, I assume college or something. His mom still lives here, but I never have seen him come to visit her. Who knows why that is, it doesn’t matter. Brielle and Rainy would not take it well if he came back, so it’s best that he doesn’t.
Enough about Hank, let’s talk about how I ended up moving to Gusty Rock. As I said before, it was when I was in the fourth grade. It was just before Christmas and my dad was laid off from his job. He applied all over, including his home town of Gusty Rock.
He didn’t think he’d get hired out here in the middle of nowhere, or that’s what he called it back then. But the guy doing the hiring remembered him since they grew up together. Long story short, we moved to the little town my dad grew up in just down the street from Grandma’s house.
I don’t know why Dad didn’t, but I love this town. Maybe it’s my friends that make it special, I don’t know. Hopefully the guy I’m supposed to be with will find me and will want to stay, because I never plan to leave. Gusty Rock is my home. If they can’t accept that then they’re not right for me.
I won’t date just anyone that asks me, I’ve seen too many of my friends find their perfect match. In fact, pretty much all of them have. Yeah, it’s been crazy around here lately. It all started a few years back when Rainy’s older sister fell instantly for her friend’s cousin when he moved to town.
It’s been like a domino effect ever since and I’m one of the last standing. Nearly everyone else found their perfect person and started having babies. At least I’m not the only one still waiting. I still have time before I’m the pathetic one that’s destined to get a dozen cats to keep her company.
I’ve been fighting the urge to get the first one. It’s a slippery slope and I’m not ready to start down that path quite yet. If I do end up the last one standing I will be easing the pain with fluffy friends, but hopefully that doesn’t happen. He could show up any day now…
