About this listen

Discover unspeakable acts of brutality and violence in this volume of 12 shocking true crime cases. If you’re fascinated by the stories of both killers and victims, and how police work with forensics and evidence in pursuit of coldblooded murderers, this captivating book is for you, taking you on a journey through some of the most unforgettable murders in recent times.

You will hear about serial killers and mass murderers as well as the horror of a cannibal’s grotesque acts, a poisoner’s deception, a female killer with no remorse, and a violent gang who wreaked havoc across Arizona… plus many more hideously compelling true crime stories.

Some of these cases are little-known, some are sensational or bizarre, and others will linger in your mind, such as a heart-breaking case which became every parent’s worst nightmare, when an insidious killer unleashed a savage frenzy on an innocent schoolgirl.

It is intriguing and frightening in equal measure to learn about the criminals who stalk our streets, but this detailed book explores each case with objectivity and compassion, so we can try to understand what makes people kill. This volume will answer the following tantalizing questions:

  • How did a serial killer’s physical appearance shock police and make headlines?
  • Which British murderer emotionlessly wrote about the weather in his diary after dismembering a young girl?
  • How did a strange email hold the clue to a callous killing in Montana?
  • What was the story of the remarkable Penn State student who met an untimely end while avoiding ANOTHER serial killer’s reign of terror in her home state?
  • What did a simple pair of glasses have to do with a diabolical plot and an inheritance?

…along with many more true crime cases that will transport you through some of humanity’s darkest moments, promising a listen that is often horrifying, sometimes emotional, but always informative and thought-provoking.

Terrifying, but entertaining

Murder Casebook Volume 1: 12 Shocking True Crime Cases brings together in audiobook format 12 unforgettable true stories featuring some of the most heinous criminals, their crimes, and of course, the innocent victims.

Prepare to discover some of the most captivating and definitely unsettling cases in recent and not-so-recent history, painstakingly researched and comprehensively written by British author and true crime enthusiast Prash Ganendran.

Listening to this audiobook reminded me a lot of those documentaries that I was watching on the Discovery channel as a teenager. I remember one of them had a psychiatrist arranging criminals on a scale in search of those who could be declared as True Evil.

The writing is so vivid and the narration so compelling that I was swept away into these accursed adventures that now I think I want to forget. It is always disconcerting and terrifying to think about what human beings can do to one another.

So just as a warning, I need to stress the fact that the audiobook deals with serious and distressing incidents and may not be suitable for all audiences, so listener discretion is definitely advised.

Native British voiceover artist, and award-winning theater acto, Mark Rice-Oxley does absolutely stellar work in bringing to life these characters, locations, and times.

His narration is top-notch, and he perfectly understands the dramatic value of the material that he is delivering to us, as listeners, so Mr. Rice-Oxley also puts to good use decades of experience in the theater in order to create the highest level of immersion.

I have always been fascinated by this genre, I love mysteries and thrillers from fiction to true crime, so I had a great time with Murder Casebook Volume 1: 12 Shocking True Crime Cases, I learned a lot of new captivating things about criminals and their unsuspecting victims, so if you are a true crime enthusiast or have a curiosity to unravel the hidden motives surrounding crimes, I highly recommend that you check out this gripping audiobook.

Volume two should be released sometime this year so I am definitely looking forward to more audiobooks from this talented author and narrator duo.

Shocking and Intriguing

These true crime stories are shocking and intriguing not only for the heinous acts committed but also the frenzy of the killers, the total and complete blending into society the killers manage to do, and the all too often of innocents being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

The author, Prash Ganendran, has put together a well-written and researched book on murders that appeared in the headlines but not with the same veracity as other well-known murders. The coolness and callousness of the man getting on the plane only to blow it up while remaining on the plane are mind-boggling to me. He could have been any one of a dozen people you encounter on the street, café, or restaurant every single day! Ganendran projected the darkness and coldness each of these killers held within them and their uncaring, inhumanity to others is so clearly defined. Outlining each of their existence to highlight how invisible they were to their friends, family, and society as a whole is astounding.

The narrator, Mark Rice-Oxley spoke clearly and with enough enthusiasm and emotion to keep the listener engaged. His voice was strong and informative without going overboard. His performance permitted the listener to engage with the stories enough to be captivated. He kept the story moving forward at a strong steady pace.

Ganendran is deliberate in providing the often-missed details and thoughts, to the point that the listener realizes that the person next to them could very well be a killer! This is both a shocking and horrifying feeling! I highly recommend this first volume. It is a must-listen for true crime enthusiasts.
