About this listen

In the multigenerational memoir, My Father's Daughter: From Rome to Sicily, Gilda Morina Syverson travels with her Italian-born father, Italian American mother, and very American husband to the villages of her ancestors. This trilogy tale leads the listener through ancient sites of Rome, landscapes of a picturesque countryside, seaside villages of Sicily, olive trees in the valley of Mount Etna, while contrasting an emotional journey between a father and a daughter.

This Novello Literary Award Book Finalist and New England Book Festival award nomination for memoir exudes passion, eloquence, heartfelt language, and ancestral roots.

Audio listeners share with us that this title is captivating like Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. You will laugh, cry, and jump for joy and be transported to another place in time.

OK story horrible recordin

Many authors use professionals for audiobooks. This is what she should have done. Sounds as if it was recorded in a bathroom. Pops, duplications, poor audio. This took much away from what could have been an interesting story. If you would like to read it try the print version. I love Italy and have been here for seven weeks. Hoped this would be a nice accompaniment to our trip.

Very Inspiring Memoir!

I just finished listening to the audiobook of “My Father’s Daughter: From Rome to Sicily”. I absolutely loved it!
This story was very well written as Glida Morina Syverson explains her journey in detail as she traveled with her husband and her parents to Italy.

Gilda talks about the rich history of Italy as well as connecting with family there. How life is so much different in Italy than in the United States but yet how the cultures and respect to family are still somewhat the same between there and here. Also how we have similar traits as others in the family but loving and accepting not only them as they are but ourselves too, unconditionally. She has realism as well as a dash of mysticism throughout her story. I was enveloped as I listened and felt like I was part of the journey. I felt various emotions from laughter, angst, teary, excitement and happiness. I looked forward to hearing what was next on the itinerary of the journey.

I am sure writing this was very much therapeutic as it was healing. What a precious gift this trip was for everyone that was involved. I found this very inspiring.

Thank you Glida Morina Syverson for writing and sharing your story with the world.
