About this listen
Dragons don’t exist. Except on the Astral Plane where humans aren’t welcome.
When humanity built spaceships and headed to the stars, they found the dragons waiting. Some places they’ll let humans go. Others they won’t.
And sometimes humanity refuses to be denied. That’s where the Mystics come in. They commune with the Astral Plane. They deal with the dragons. They suffer the dragon’s fury. And sometimes they bend the dragons to their will.
Very few have the gift of seeing the Astral Plane. Their innate talents are nurtured in the Mystic Academy while Earth Fleet has its own academy where they train the best and brightest for careers in space. The fleet has to work within the laws of physics. And they have to work with the Mystics, too, even though they don’t understand them.
Because they don’t believe that Dragons are real.
This is the complete trilogy – all three books in one place at one time. Join us today and see for yourself the allure of the astral plane.

Story
Nora Devi is a xeno-archaeologist with a complicated past. She has buried more secrets than she’s dug up. Widowed in the recently ended twelve year war between Capitoline and Palantine, she now makes a living as an independent tagger in border space. Captain Liam Kimani could be credited with ending the latest royal war. Instead, he’s blamed for it. Dirty commoners aren’t meant to lay their hands on royalty. He has no regrets.

The Leaf People travel the cosmos freely, their spirit forms not limited by physical laws. While highly attuned to the life forces of living creatures, they are blind to anything that is manufactured or altered from its natural state. Life is being extinguished in a growing area on the far side of the Milky Way Galaxy. No one knows who or why or how, but since the Leaf People cannot sense a perpetrator, they are powerless to deal with something that must be non-living. They turn to the Empire for help. The Queen must in good conscience respond to their call, but her resources are limited, ...

Story
Slip doesn’t buy it, though. The Sci-gods took everything from him. They dropped a bomb that reduced his home to waste, his family to dust, and left him broken with no hope for vengeance. Now he’s just a lone cyborg digging through scraps for his next meal. That changes when a rebel assassin stalks Slip, eager to unlock the untapped potential hidden deep within him—his unique connection to the A.I. in his head. With nothing left to lose, he accepts the invitation to duel for upgrades to his tech, created by the very ones who destroyed his life: the history-obsessed Sci-gods.

Good premise, poor writing. Annunciation of characters names changing back and forth very distracting.
I hate not finishing books. But this one has felt like a chore to listen to about 90% of the time. The writing is basic enough to make me wonder if it isn't just read by AI, but writen by one as well. There are weird logic jumps and timeline changes. There will be a bunch of lead up to something and then it happens and with so little detail and time that I have rewound it several times seeing if I missed something.
Major plot points seem like an afterthought, while basic information will be repeated several times in 30mins of listening.
Some plot points are introduced and then never circled back to.
I made it through book 1 and am in chapter 3 of book two. Realizing that I would turn the book on and steel myself to get through the rest of it, just for the sake of finishing it.
The 'reader' will emphasize words that shouldn't be and dead pan things that should br emphasized. It also changes how it pronounces one of the main characters names. Changing back and forth, sometimes in the same sentence. Very distracting.
I will not say to not listen to this book, because everyone has their own tastes and standards for stories, but I will reiterate that I have listened to 9h 31mins and can't bring myself to listen to the 13h 30mins left.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
