Captive

Interesting story. The author did not get into the details of how she was treated on a day to day basis and her chores

A Walk in a Pioneer Woman’s Shoes

Some of this book’s reviews criticize the formal language, bland delivery, and terms like savage used repeatedly to describe the Native Americans. If you read it, keep in mind that this is a narrative not a story for entertainment. It is history as she saw it at that time. For the period that it was written, it is totally appropriate. Mrs. Kelly endured events and situations that she mostly likely could never imagine before they happened. She suffered much grief and stress. The things she witnessed were likely much more brutal than her descriptions can convey. Due to conventions of the time, there are topics she cannot cover in detail. I highly recommend this if you can walk in Mrs. Kelly’s shoes as you read it. Perhaps picture yourself captured by a group you consider terrorists. You are in a country not known to you, taken captive by those with different beliefs from your own, starved, terrified, beaten, and removed from all you know after you watched the families in your group be murdered. Read this open to feeling as Mrs. Kelly did as you absorb her experience. My comments here have nothing to do with the wrongs committed during the settlement of this country and everything to do with just listening and learning from the experiences of others.

Bias

Author seemed to exeragerate. Didn't flow. Just couldn't stand the repetitive language. Gave it up.
