About this listen

Have you ever served in the US Navy? Do you know someone who has? Have you ever wondered what shipboard life was like? Then this is the audiobook for you!

The author served in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, in the waning days of the Cold War. In this series of 62 Sea Stories, he takes us on an enjoyable journey back to that very different time in US Navy history. He tells it like it was, and no one is spared. Some of the stories are hilarious. Some are tragic. Some are a sobering reminder of the dangers, difficulties, and stresses of naval sea service. All together, they frame an unforgettable portrait of Navy life in the 1980s. Even so, Sailors serving today will recognize much that hasn't changed a bit.

Welcome aboard to Landlubbers, Pollywogs, Shellbacks, Old Salts...and everyone in between.

RADM Daniel V Gallery USN would be proud! Not since Gallery's iconic literary work about Navy life on years gone-by, has anyone so succinctly summed up life aboard naval vessels.

This book is a "must have" for every beach house, cottage, and bungalow in the US. All 60+ stories are freestanding, bite-size journeys into the life of a US sailor.
Having served in the USNR, these stories are so on-target and insane I know them to be 100% true! I only needed to assign a few names from my own experiences.

Thank you Commander Kipling for your honest and objective evaluation and optic on the status of our military now, and how it performed a few short decades ago.
This book is a "must read" for all sailors past and present.

Thank you sir. Fairwinds and following seas.

RADM Gallery would be proud!

Really enjoyed this look into Navy life. It was understandable for someone who doesn't have a military background. Funny and Interesting!

The stories shared by the author were engaging and interesting. This old salt enjoyed reminiscing. I know a lot of sailors can relate to and would enjoy this collection of stories. Highly recommended!

I happened upon Mr Kiplings first book “Dutch” and really enjoyed it, so when Neptune’s Asylum popped up I downloaded it immediately. I’m glad I did! It was a wonderful collection of sea stories by a man who obviously has been there - done that. I found it refreshing to listen to the juxtaposition of the “old Navy” compared to the “new Navy” and the damage being done by the political correctness of our times. It makes one wonder what’s going to happen when we are called to battle again.
I’m looking forward to Mr Kiplings next book.
