Publisher's summary

More than half a century ago, the naturalist Farley Mowat accepted an assignment to investigate why wolves were killing Arctic caribou. Mowat’s account of the summer he lived in the frozen tundra alone – studying the wolf population and developing a deep affection for these wild creatures (who were no threat to caribou or man) – is today celebrated as a classic of nature writing, at once a tale of remarkable adventure and an indelible record of the myths and magic of wolves. Never Cry Wolf was made into a major motion picture by Walt Disney Productions.

Better Than the Movie

Learned a lot of new information about wolves that I never really picked up when the movie came out a very long time ago. Humorous. I wish he'd had a lot more time to study his wolves. Not surprised that the government totally ignored what he learned. It's always all about money and who's got it to spend. Great book though. Loved it.

completely loved it

The effect of this book on me was tremendous. I felt such a rapport with the wolves by the end, that it was sad when the book was over. The story is impactful and compelling. The author has excellent wit and humor, which embellishes an otherwise deep story about our biological, ancestral, and imaginal connection with the wolf.

SO GOOD!

This was such a great story. I live in the country and recently had a pack of wolves in my yard. my boyfriend suggested this book to read and it helped me not be so fearful knowing they are so similar in ways to my dogs.

Wish it was more of a catalog of the adventure

I was constantly left hoping we’d see a ‘day to day’ of sorts of the wolves but the insight on wolf behavior and hunting was such a valuable read. Since this book so much research has come out about wolves genuine personality and complex behaviors- and a lot of it had to do with this book kickstarting more research and understanding in white circles. Would love to hear more about wolves and their languages from Inuit authors so will be seeking that out next

Me against Myself

Would you listen to Mowat: Never Cry Wolf again? Why?

Of course!

Who was your favorite character and why?

In the Movie and book it is the main character because it is his sense of humor that brings it all to life.

Have you listened to any of Adam Sims’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Good enough.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not like the Movie.

Any additional comments?

The Movie has been one of my top favorites and shared enthusiastically with friends. The Movie brought my emotions to a peek from the get go. I will have to listen to the book again to get a handle on it. The first time I listened I was working around the house and my Kindle Fire is hard to hear. Me against Myself because that is my way and the story takes me there.

Adventure, beauty and sadness. Man is the lowest animal.

Liked the bravery and curiosity of science. Disliked the behavior of men. I canonly hope we have evolved since them.

A must read for any wolf lovers!

Everything about this book was far better than I could have ever hoped for. At first I bought this book out of my own love for wolves and was hoping to educate myself further. What I got instead was everything I was looking for and an witty and entertaining novel that had me laughing out loud and listening with full attention enraptured by this man's story.

I say at the top that this book is for wolf lover's but that's not wholly accurate. this book is for anyone and everyone. It is meant to educate the masses about the true nature of wolves and dissuade people from believing all the vicious lies spread by the public fear these magnificent animals.

I do have to say that in many case mowat had been extremely lucky. It is true that wolves are generally a very peaceful race but they are still predators. put a predator in a position that it feels threatened and they will defend themselves. However wolves do not ever go out of their way to attack people and should be treated with respect and dignity.
