About this listen

James Herriot meets Jeff Foxworthy in the real-life adventures of a traveling horse doctor.

Climb into the truck alongside large animal vet Dr. Madison Seamans and race to the aid of horses with wounds, stomach aches, allergies, and bizarre behaviors, as well as those in severe physical distress. Quite by accident, you'll find yourself familiar with and understanding common equine medical problems and how they are diagnosed and treated, all while marveling at the remarkable situations a country veterinarian can find himself in. Playful yet serious, honest yet tongue-in-cheek, this wonderfully written book is an up-close look at a well-lived rural life that is about as authentic as America gets. No one who cares a whit for the animal kingdom, and the humans who dare enter it, will be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this book and author; the stories, the in depth explanations and tones really brought the book to life. It was like sitting with an old friend and listening to his tales over a cup of coffee.

exactly what I expected, and wanted, this book to be, plus a little more on top. ... I've got something like 1400 titles in my library and this is the 2nd review I've ever felt the need to write; it was just that satisfying.

Enter the world of a mobile equine veterinarian’s selection of farm call experiences. A FUN read for equestrians as well as those unfamiliar with, but curious about, horses and their health care.

I loved it. It's a good story about a career in veterinary medicine. The story is humorous and well told.

Great story telling by the man who lived them… it’s a great listen if you love horses or people or both… but I was especially impressed with the scientific explanations broken down so well… I am going to steal some of his methods for teaching basic biological processes.

Horse stories, crazy owners and science, what not to like?

This book is a compilation of stories, many of which end in unresolved "cliffhangers" . While Dr. Newman's narration is life-like and mildly amusing, his selection of vignettes seems to paint his horse-owning clientele as very gullible. Even though he discribed some of them as long time clients and even friends, no one seemed to trust him. This book will never compete with James Harriot' s All Creatures Great and Small.
