About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.

'Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come round again. That's why they're called revolutions. People die, and nothing changes.'

For a policeman, there can be few things worse than a serial killer loose in your city. Except, perhaps, a serial killer who targets coppers, and a city on the brink of bloody revolution.

For Commander Sam Vimes, it all feels horribly familiar. Caught on the roof of a very magical building during a storm, he's found himself back in his own rough, tough past without even the clothes he was standing up in when the lightning struck. Living in the past is hard, especially when your time travel companion is a serial killer who knows where you live. But he must survive, because he has a job to do: track down the murderer and change the outcome of the rebellion.

The problem is: if he wins, he's got no wife, no child, no future...

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order but Night Watch is the sixth book in the City Watch series.

'The best Discworld book in the whole world ever. Until next time.' SFX

but some of the caricatures were difficult to understand because of the narrator. better to give up acting and just read.

release on the glorious 25th of may (or was it the 24th?), this amazing story just got an amazing telling.

Night Watch is one of, if not the best Discworld books-though darker and with less humor than many. Maybe not the best choice if you have never before read any Pratchett novels/Discworld books.
The narrator on the “Guards” series is really fantastic-he’s got distinct voices for each character, they all sound different, and the majority of them actually sound like what I imagine in my head when I’m reading the print copy.
I listened to this a while ago, and had to give it some time before a re-listen, as it does hit hard. There isn’t a lot of violence, but the violence is personalized and I think because of that, it sinks in differently. It’s a great listen, by a brilliant writer, brought to life by a wonderful narrator.

Fantastic Book, Amazing Narrator

I’m glad the rest of the series isn’t as hard and angry as this book, but I am also glad that this one is.

Possibly the best Discworld book

Sam Vimes + Sam Vimes. And I'm here for it!
Falling deeper and deeper in love with the Night Watch, and this time around with the old crew instead of the new recruits. Can't get enough, but I can definitely get the next one!

Love them copper stories.

Night Watch is possibly my favorite Discworld novel. Granted some of the humor of the others isn’t there and the story has a harsh ending. But STP had a harsh message to get across and no other author could have made it so immersive and compelling.

Possibly the best

It feels funny writing a negative review on a TP novel but I didn’t enjoy this at all. Almost no humor, a boring plot, no likable characters although here we meet almost every night watch member. The narration is done seriously - not the insouciant style of Stephen Briggs or Nigel Planer so perhaps that also sabotaged the enjoyment. But after plugging away for 9 hours I wondered why not switch to something I’d like. So I did.
I must comment that the magic of the right narrator was missing - and seems to be missing from the newer recordings. Too sad.

No humor no magic

Normally I can blaze through the Discworld audiobooks (the old ones), this one is read so slowly that it actually slows me to a crawl to the point of not listening anymore. And that's a shame. I'm sure Jon Culshaw did his best, but this isn't his greatest work.

The story is awesome as always but narration isn't great
