About this listen

As one of al-Qaeda's most respected bomb-makers, Aimen Dean rubbed shoulders with the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks and swore allegiance to Osama bin Laden himself.

As a double agent at the heart of al-Qaeda's chemical weapons program, he foiled attacks on civilians and saved countless lives, brushing with death so often that his handlers began to call him their spy with nine lives.

This is the story of how a young Muslim, determined to defend his faith, found himself fighting on the wrong side - and his fateful decision to work undercover for his sworn enemy. From the killing fields of Bosnia to the training camps of Afghanistan, from running money and equipment in Britain to dodging barrel bombs in Syria, we discover what life is like inside the global jihad, and what it will take to stop it once and for all.

An excellent and profoundly informative book

This was an excellent and profoundly informative book, which was both exciting and frightening in equal measure.
Sadly, in its realistic description of the underlying roots of Jihadism, it leaves the reader depressed for the future of Islam’s relationships with the Civilized World.

Phenomenal

This is one of the best spy stories out there. The philosophical pontificating at three ends is amazing too.

Aimen is an inspiration to all who need clearer lenses as to what our world is coming to.

Impossible to put down!

Quite possibly one of the best books I’ve listened to and read! From being a terrorist to taking down terror plots for British Intel, Mr. Dean shares a personal account that rivals that of almost anybody living today. I’d definitely go out on a limb to say that! As for drawbacks, this book is a pretty long and time consuming audiobook with over 500 pages. I just broke up the book into 5, 100 page sections instead of looking at the book as 500 pages to get through the book easier and it helped. Plus it gave me more time to absorb all the info in this book! Thumbs up on Nine Lives!

Amazing book

Can only imagine how many more lives would have been saved if not for times magazine revealing his identity.

Exceptional

Discovered this book after listening to the podcast "Conflicted" which I definitely recommend also. Amazing account of events that we all think we know about, but things look different when you are in the 81mm pit in Bosnia, in the jungle with MILF, or walking the rope with terrorists and MI6. Credit worthy!

Good, not great

An interesting story of a jihadi turned spy turned erstwhile reformer. As an in-depth and up close look into the mindset of the Islamist terrorist movement, it is pretty compelling. There is no doubt that this is a brave and good man who has significantly contributed to the cause of preventing terrorist plots and action.

It’s not exactly a swashbuckling spy story with lots of action or close calls. My guess is that is probably the pretty typical life of a true spy.
