About this listen

After a devastating flood orphaned Noelle Brown, she thought her handsome and charming benefactor, Andrew Paige, could be the man of her dreams. So why did his steely-eyed older stepbrother, Jared Dunn, make her heart race and her breath catch in her throat?

Desperado turned lawman, Jared had come home to Fort Worth, Texas, ready to leave his dangerous past behind. The green-eyed, feisty young woman his stepbrother had taken in wasn’t the gold digger Jared had expected. Far from it - the unconventional, innocent beauty needed his guidance to learn the ways of high society, a task he found surprisingly enjoyable.

When scandal threatened them all, Noelle would be forced to marry to save the family’s honor. But which brother had truly captured her heart? With rivalry pitting brother against brother, one thing was for certain: this wouldn’t be a marriage of convenience!

Great characters!

The characters in this book were uniquely flawed. It was a fun read and really made you feel like you were in Texas in 1900.

The narration was superb! each voice was clear and unique. Great talent and fun to listen to.

A Story of a Typical Man

Great story of a man with a past, who simply subatoges a relationship because of his insecurities. The child woman in this story is so naive,as is well portrayed, like most of Diana Palmers main female characters. The story was good but not as predictable as some of Palmers storylines. The suspense in this one has keep me returning to it. The passionate scenes in this book were not over bearing, and in my opinion, Tasteful. Overall, it was a joy, and I smiled often, still after listening to it a second time. It is simply a good read. Get your blankets, Ladies, spend the day curled up with feisty Neolle, an insecure Jarrett, the arrogant Andrew, and last but not least the pleasant peaceable Miss Dunn. Enjoy!!!

Lovely

Any additional comments?

Great book. Really kept my interest from the first page to the last. Jared is a wonderful character. He was a gun man at one time but left the outlaw business to become a rich Harvard lawyer. Now he is perceived as a milksop attorney and not the macho man that he really is. He goes back South to his home where his grandmother and half brother are living in Jared's house and on his funds. His brother, Andrew, is a weak man who had a desk job in the war, but presents himself as a dashing calvary officer with a lot of fighting in his background. He has brought a distant cousin to live with him and his grandmother in Jared's house. Her name is Noelle. She is enthralled by Andrew but Andrew wants someone more polished and higher up in society as his wife. Jared is attracted to Noelle. Noelle begins to be attracted to Jared, but thinks she is still in love with Andrew. This triangle presents a very interesting story.

There is a "To Kill a Mockingbird" storyline running throughout (involving Jared's defense of a man charged with robbery and assault). This was well written and not your usual chick lit romance. It was a little deeper and the characters were very well drawn by the author. The reader was also excellent.

Hi Ho - Hi Ho, Back to the past I go :)

Any additional comments?

Noelle Brown was away from home, caring for her sick uncle, when Galveston was destroyed by a hurricane. Her entire family had been killed, leaving her with the tragic memories of identifying them, and still living in the city, fearing the next storm. When a distant cousin appears and invites her to leave and live with him and his grandmother, she works hard to fit in.

Andrew might be a dashing man, but he lacks true character. He is more than willing to have Noelle in his home, but she tends to be an embarrassment to him with her unsocial graces. But, she is pretty enough, he believes he can convince her to become his mistress.

Andrew's stepbrother, Jared Dunn is more than just cityfied lawyer he presents. Having a long history involving gunfights, the Rangers, and military service, Jared provides for his grandmother and frivolous stepbrother, Andrew. Finding the fiesty newcomer, Noelle in his home, sets in motion the fulfillment of his dreams, even before he knows he has them.

A very enjoyable story. A little thrown off by the time frame with the going back and forth between gunfights and horseback riding to the typewriter and telephone. It all seemed just a little weird but this book was a nice change from my usual reads :)

A Love For Noelle

Would you consider the audio edition of Noelle to be better than the print version?

I never read the print so I have nothing to compare it to. I enjoyed the audio.

What other book might you compare Noelle to and why?

It was a cross between My Fair Lady and A Time To Kill

Which character – as performed by Natalie Ross – was your favorite?

Jared, I thought of him as a complex person with so many facets

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did not find anything wrong with the performance

too many historical event references -annoying

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

? It was an ok read.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Remove a heap of the unnecessary historical event references added! I understand that its the norm for an author to research the period in which the story is set to make it more authentic, but I think tthe author decided to add everything they found. Almost every single american historical event was mentioned and it just felt completely unnecessary and became annoying. It felt like the author felt they had to mention anything that happened in that time in order for the audience to believe it was set then? blah!

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

already feels very like "sabrina" set in historical america. and that had already been made twice.
