Story
The Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda are our oldest written sources for Norse mythology. When it comes to the norse myths, they are the closest thing we have to listening these stories as the vikings actually told them, around those ancient campfires so long ago. It is my hope that you will enjoy this collection, and that the two books will work in tandem to broaden and deepen your appreciation for these epic and mystical stories, and the enigmatic culture that spawned them.

Story
The poems of the Poetic Edda have waited a long time for a modern English translation that would do them justice. Here it is at last (Odin be praised!) and well worth the wait. These amazing texts from a 13th-century Icelandic manuscript are of huge historical, mythological, and literary importance, containing the lion's share of information that survives today about the gods and heroes of pre-Christian Scandinavians, their unique vision of the beginning and end of the world, etc.

Great sequel
The first edition was one of my favorite mythology compilations that I have encountered in recent history. This book does a fantastic job delving deeper into what has been written on Norse Mythology. Most of what was contained was new to me. Overall, this is a great boon for anyone wanting more Norse Mythology in their lives.

In depth look at the gods of the North
Get ready to look at your favorite Norse gods in a different way, at least if your current experience is limited to the MCU. I really enjoyed how some of the depictions of the characters of the myths stood in stark contrast to how they are portrayed by Marvel. There were also instances where some key characteristics were spot on, and how they came about was even explained in detail. Well worth the time to enhance your enjoyment of the modern interpretations of these ancient stories.

Lots of stories
Great for listening. I found it easy to follow along. And there were stories that I didn’t know. The stories painted pictures in my mind. Even my son enjoyed listening to them.

Fascinating stories
I have to start off with my praise of James Francis Markert as narrator. I find the deep tone of his voice soothing and easy to listen to. He also does an excellent job storytelling and using inflection in all the right places.
As to the collection: As with Greek and Roman mythology, the same story is repeated by different authors. At first, I thought it would be boring, but I discovered that there are slight differences between versions and that I heard different things each time the story was told. Perhaps because different authors put an emphasis on different areas? I'm not sure, but I did enjoy the collection and highly recommend it.
One of the things I most appreciate about these collections is the Historical Background that is given at the beginning of the book. I have learned so much about history that is not taught in school and it has given me an enhanced view of human growth and migration. Fascinating stuff. I just sit and absorb!

A fresh bolt of thunder for the Norse panthon
a nice mixture of northern stories. Some not the usual ones. Plain language very nice for any one who struggled with understanding the older saga's. Skip the education part in the first part, and you have some nice child friendly short bedtime stories .(The children don't always have to know they are learning. Superheroes right.)

A Good Collection of Norse Myths and Legends
You get a set of 6 collections of nordic stories by different translators/editors that generally cover the same set of Eddas and Sagas ... so there is a significant amount of duplication that can be a little disorienting at first ... but at 20+ hours, you are not going to listen to it all in one sitting either. In addition to all of the more well known stories, you do get a lot of the lessor known ones as well, so it is still a bargain if you are at all interesting in Viking myths and legends. There is not real commentary or exposition of any of them, so it is more suitable to entertainment than academic; however, the solid narration makes it easy to listen to.
I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
