Now, let’s be real. We’ve all been there—standing in front of the mirror, silently critiquing every bump, curve, and wrinkle like we’re judging some kind of twisted beauty pageant where everyone loses. And don’t even get me started on the “suck in your stomach” instinct that kicks in the second you’re even near a mirror. I spent years feeling like I was at war with my body, constantly covering it up, tweaking, pinching, and faking confidence. But one day, I had a little epiphany: What if the problem wasn’t my body at all? What if the problem was that I’d been taught to believe my body was something to fix, not something to love?
And so began my (sometimes hilarious, sometimes awkward) journey into what I like to call “nude therapy.” No, I didn’t throw all my clothes into a bonfire and become a full-time nudist. But I did start exploring how being naked—truly bare—could help me reconnect with my body and, in turn, rediscover the love I had for myself. And let me tell you, there were some very interesting moments along the way.
Like that time I decided to try naked mirror work for the first time. I lit some candles, put on soothing music (because apparently, I thought I was at a spa), and stood in front of the mirror. My intention was to stand there for five minutes and just appreciate my body without judgment. I lasted about 30 seconds before my brain went into full-on critique mode. “Are my thighs supposed to do that when I stand like this?” or “When did my belly start making friends with my hips?” But after a while, the laughter kicked in, and I realized how ridiculous it was to be so harsh on myself. It wasn’t an instant love fest, but it was the start of something. And spoiler alert: the more you practice, the more that judgmental voice in your head starts to quiet down.
In this book, we’re going to dive into all the ways nudity can help you reconnect with yourself, get comfortable in your own skin, and—wait for it—fall in love with the body you have right now. No magical diets, no filters, no “suck it in” mantras required. We’re talking real, unfiltered, raw self-love, starting with the simple act of taking off your clothes and getting comfortable with what you see.
I’m not here to tell you that getting naked is going to solve all your problems (though it does make laundry a whole lot easier). But I am here to show you how embracing your natural state—whether through yoga, meditation, mirror work, or just lounging around—can help you build a stronger, more loving relationship with yourself. And let’s be honest, who couldn’t use a little more self-love?
And don’t worry, there will be plenty of stories along the way. Like the time I attempted naked yoga in my living room, only to have my neighbor’s cat somehow wander in mid-downward dog. (Pro tip: make sure your curtains are actually closed before you try that one.) It’s all part of the journey, my friend.
