Publisher's summary

When Ward Johannsen’s little girl, Ava, shifted into a werewolf, she was taken into custody by the feds and shipped off to the nearest pack, all ties between father and daughter severed. Ward burned every bridge he had discovering her location, and then almost froze to death in the Colorado mountains tracking her new pack down. And that’s just the beginning of his struggle.

Henry Dormer is an alpha werewolf and an elite black ops soldier who failed his last mission. He returns home, hoping for some time to recuperate and help settle the pack’s newest member, a little pup named Ava who can’t shift back to her human form. Instead, he meets Ward, who refuses to leave his daughter without a fight. The two men are as different as night and day, but their respect for each other strikes a spark of mutual interest that quickly grows into a flame. They might find something special together - love, passion, and even a family - if they can survive trigger-happy pack guardians, violent werewolf politics, and meddling government agencies that are just as likely to get their alpha soldiers killed as bring them home safely.

Interesting take on werewolves

Ward goes in search of his daughter Ava after she shifts and is shipped to a werewolf pack to be trained. He has a friend that tells him where the compound is and he goes in search of her.
Henry is alpha of the pack and been on a mission that failed. His superiors are angry that he didn't do as told. When he returns he finds the young werewolf still hasn't shifted and her father somehow found them and is near death.

There is great chemistry between Ward and Henry. I like how its slow burn and off page. The balance between the building of mates, the father-daughter bond, the alpha bond, the world-building, and drama is great.

My only issue is it felt like a book two or follow-up to a series.

The narration is good. Jack Wesley has an easy to listen to the voice, does a good job telling the story and not sounding like he is reading and gives good voice to the characters.

I enjoyed this book and listened in one sitting.

4.5 Stars

Jack Wesley's narration made an already great book terrific!

Told in a dual third person POV with a sweet HEA, this story is filled with interesting world building, great, well-fleshed-out characters, and a compelling plot. This was absolutely entertaining.

I don't know where or what Jack Wesley has been doing before audio narrating, but he did such a fantastic job with this that I was shocked this is his only title on Audible.

His breath sounds are great, his tone is even, his pacing is great, he provided clear character voices, and he added emotional depth to the story.

Absolutely loved everything about this book!

The story kept me interested so much I finished it in just a single day. Can't wait to see more from both Cari Z. and Jack Wesley.

Great new narrator, interesting shifter world

This was a hard story for me to like right now. I’m sure there are some allegories between this story and “real life” camps that strike home.

I think, depending on your frame of mind, the hate and distrust and the making people feel isolated and different can really strike a nerve given our political times.
4 stars for the story

Audio

I thought Jack Wesley (new to me) did a great job. He was easy to listen to, did a nice job with the emotion, and helped differentiate the characters. He's definitely a narrator I'll be looking for in the future.

Fantastic!

She’s a wonderful writer, and Wesley is a fantastic narrator. I’m really surprised he hadn’t done anything else. I don’t normally like the werewolf genre but this was an excellently written story with well rounded characters and fucking hot sex scenes so even if werewolves aren’t your thing give it a go.
