About this listen
Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Semifinalist
The groundbreaking series that Publishers Weekly said "could easily open a fresh new world of urban fantasy".
Shaman, Healer, Heretic
Even for a techno-shaman, a kachina in the bedroom isn't exactly part of the drill. When Olivia Lawson wakes to find one towering over her, she panics. A Hopi god visiting the real world isn't just wrong - it's impossible.
Or is it?
Left with few options, Olivia is forced to defy centuries of shaman prohibitions. As she and her allies risk everything in their bid for survival, Olivia ultimately learns that the rules are there for a reason and that breaking them has a terrible cost.
Shaman, Friend, Enemy
As Livvy's career soars, her personal life spirals downward. Broken bonds and lost love finally force her to confront the terrible secret of her beginning in shamanism. Despite being attacked by dark shamans and navigating a spiritual plane that seems out of control, Livvy's single-minded quest steers her into dangerous territory and puts her on a collision course with those dearest to her. No longer able to walk a fine line, Livvy discovers that when the one thing you need is the one thing you can't have - you'll risk everything.
Shaman, Sister, Sorceress
If techno-shaman Olivia Lawson thinks a trip to the Hopi mesas is the escape she needs, she is gravely mistaken. Formidable shamans draw her into a bitter and centuries-old conflict. But as prophecies turn deadly, even the gods of the Multiverse play their part, and Livvy must choose - between this world and a new one, between action and acceptance, between duty and desire.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

No Competent Hero or Heroine
Reading or hearing reading about an incompetent heroine might appeal to some, but not this reader. The lead character gets repeatedly into messes that require some degree of competent tactical and martial skill, yet she persistently ignores the repeating history by failing to develop obviously needed skills. By the end of the third book I barely finished out of frustration with an obviously incompetent heroine.

Techno Shaman - a Whole New World
What made the experience of listening to Olivia Lawson Techno-Shaman Series the most enjoyable?
I am fascinated by this new world of tehno shamans. It’s like going on an educational roller coaster ride. The characters are all intriguing and I want to hear more from each of them. There were a few twists that I couldn’t see coming. I always appreciate authors who can surprise me!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Livvy! She's a kind-hearted woman maneuvering her way through uncharted territory. She’s down-to earth, willing to explore new options, always wanting the best for her clients and friends, and still seeking her own happiness.
What about Celia Aurora de Blas’s performance did you like?
I am delighted to have a found a new narrator that I enjoy. Celia Aurora de Blas is talented – pleasant, straightforward narration with well-differentiated character voices. I especially appreciate the female characters' voices.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
More character than moment: I liked hearing each of the characters come to life in Book 1. All of the ladies (and yes, SK, also!) were well-drawn by the author and well-interpreted by the narrator.
Any additional comments?
I'm drinking these books like they're water. On to Book 4!

it was and wasn't what I had hoped for
it lacked the native American feel I hoped for till the third book. the main character while predictably the world's most powerful shaman, is such without any effort or background. in fact her troubles stem from a ridiculous lack of knowledge because of the imposed separation between shamans. this frustrated my main expectation to delve into traditional shamanism.
the second star I took away is because of the unenjoyable magic system. it's simply call upon her helpers power and what needs to be done is done. it's basic, there are a few rules and it would have been forgivable if the rules weren't completely ignored in the third book.
but aside from those disappointments the story was average, whatever twists might pop up are negated by predictable or otherwise obvious devices. though saying that I am still left wondering to the back ground of one character in particular. sadly I will probably be left to speculate as I do not plan on continuing with this series
