About this listen

Some wars don't end, some scars don't heal, and some bonds can't be broken. Former US Army Ranger medic Leo Jenkins picks up where he left off with his bestselling book, Lest We Forget, to explore the tribulations associated with attempting to reintegrate back into society after years at war.

In what is being considered one of the most significant introspective books on veteran transition issues ever written, Jenkins lays it all on the line one more time with On Assimilation: A Ranger's Return From War. Contains mature themes.

Excellent glimpse into what it's like

As a recently separated veteran with multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, this book hit home with me. I experienced a lot of the same struggles as Leo, and I wish more Americans would make an effort to understand this generation of returning warriors and what we now go through.

A must read for anyone working with Veterans!

While not at Veteran's are Veterans of combat, much of the experiences on trying to assimilate back into civilian society that is clueless still rings true.

An Eye Opening Account Of One Ranger Medic’s Return To Civilian Life

I read Leo Jenkins first book on Kindle along with the Audible companion detailing his experiences in the grueling Medic training process and deployment scenarios. I found it very inspirational, enlightening, and fascinating. I was thus looking forward to Mr. Jenkins continued life journey as a return to civilian life. What a process it was!!! This Audible highlights the mindset and struggles encountered in his personal life, trying to develop meaningful relationships and gaining employment. It appears to be a genuinely honest portrayal, well crafted.

There are so many individuals like me that do not understand and probably never fully will, the experiences of our service men and woman and the difficulties they encounter upon their return. One thing stands out to me and has a profound gut wrenching impact on my very being after reading this story. WHY DO WE NOT OFFER TIMELY, STATE OF THE ART SERVICES FOR OUR RETURNING WARRIORS.

His struggles and lack of support were so clearly and passionately stated in this story. Everyone needs to read this. It is not just HIS story but many veterans’ tale. We, without a doubt owe all of them the support and care they require.

You made your point, Leo Jenkins. Your words do make a difference. I, for the life of me, do not understand why there is no Kindle version and the paperback is virtually non existent. An account that is thought to be one of the best books on promoting an understanding of assimilation back into society after serving in the military has primarily an Audible version only. Doesn’t make sense. At the very least get a Kindle version…… PLEASE!

Well worth the listen! I was able to acquire a used copy on a thrift books online site. NO new books available at present.

Incredible, all Americans should read this book

Thank you for opening my eyes to the real needs of our veterans. I want to fight for those who have fought for us. We need a change in the veterans administration in this country it is despicable.

Hear me out...

I finished this book about two years ago and often think about the contents of it pretaining to my life. I had the opportunity to meet the author Leo at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grapple with him. Afterwards he took the time to sit over coffee and explain his thoughts on when this book was written and how he sees it now almost 10 years later. If this is the only version you've read, he has since re-written the book with a different outlook. The man I met was not the same man that wrote this book 10 years ago, he seemed more at peace. I guess this is less of a review of the literature and more of an insite into the author, at least my take anyway.
