Publisher's summary
From Chapter 18:
“You know I don’t want to leave you here by yourself, but I must. I don’t dare stay with you any longer. It wouldn’t seem right. It wouldn’t be right.”
It might not seem right, but that didn’t stop me from wanting him to stay if it was only another minute or two. I couldn’t remember anyone ever holding me close, comforting me. Mom certainly hadn’t. Neither had Dad. Calvin wasn’t the holding kind of person. When I tried to snuggle up to him, he’d push me away. He claimed having someone touching him made him to feel claustrophobic.
“I don’t want you to leave,” I admitted out loud.
He squeezed me tighter for a few moments, let out a long, drawn-out breath before he turned me loose. “We met one promise too late,” his words came out in a kind of whisper. “I’ll pick you up for breakfast. Lock the door.”
And he was gone.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with my best friend’s little sister before our lives went in different directions. Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. Story
Gabriel Ferrara is tall and handsome, and most days she wants to stab her eyes out with a pencil, anything to stop her seeing his perfection. How any female could work in these conditions and not be completely besotted with him is beyond her. Then he opens his mouth and she remembers why. He's bossy and sarcastic, with a wit so sharp it could cut glass. Every weekend is the same . . . while he's off living his dream life, she's counting down the days until Monday when she sees him again.

Gramps grinned ever so slightly as he nodded toward my feet. “You got that red clay dirt on the bottom of your feet. That mountain is the only place where you can find that kind of red dirt.” I looked down and sure enough my feet were stained slightly orange by the red dirt I’d walked through instead of plain old ...
