About this listen
A moving story of love, second chances and the importance of family from the Number One International Bestseller.
When Jack Canfield is told he has a terminal illness and that he has weeks to live, his first concern is for his beloved wife, Lizzie, and children, baby Jack, Cory and rebellious teenager Mikki.
On Christmas Eve, when Lizzie comes home, Jack is devastated to see his neighbour, Bill Miller, kiss Lizzie on their driveway. Jack confronts her, she tries to explain he's got it all wrong, and distraught, she leaves the house into an ice storm - and a fatal collision with a truck. Overwhelmed with grief, and with his illness worsening Jack is taken into a hospice. The children move to the West Coast to live with various members of the family. But then a miracle happens. Jack begins to recover, and day by day he starts to heal. Confounding the doctors, Jack leaves the hospital without any evidence of the illness.
Unexpectedly the family inherits a beautiful old villa with a lighthouse on the beach in South Carolina. It was the house where Lizzie grew up and Jack feels an inexplicable closeness to her while he's there. Although his mother-in-law, Bonnie, has other ideas for their future, Jack knows that this is the chance he has to re-build his relationship with his kids. And as he struggles to reconnect with the children, he also has the chance to find love again, perhaps even with Lizzie's help.
©2010 David Baldacci (P)2010 Hachette AudioWould you listen to One Summer again? Why?
Yes. This is a very touching story of how illness affects so many people and shows the motives and reactions of each one. What other book might you compare One Summer to and why?
Jodi Picoult's - Plain Truth. Stories of misunderstanding and fighting to be recognised as having valid reactions to extreme situations. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Jack was left in the hospice then later the mother in law trying for the children again. Very moving and upsetting.Any additional comments?
Found the male narrotator not so clear and didn't need two narrotators. I'd keep wondering if they were going to hit the cues at the right time!Loyalty in love

Where does One Summer rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?
It was one of the greatest books in my Audible experience. It was kinda weird since it seemed a Nicholas Sparks book but it seems that Baldacci is a versatile author that can change from Grisham mode to Sparks mode. What did you like best about this story?
This is a story about values and a very good one.Which character ??? as performed by Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ??? was your favorite?
Michelle was a very good portrait of a teenage that had a good education. Sam provided some comic relief for the historyWho was the most memorable character of One Summer and why?
But definitely the most memorable character of One Sumer is Jack Armstrong and his lettersAny additional comments?
