Publisher's summary

Survivors of sexual and domestic abuse in Christian Fundamentalism have been neglected and vilified by the teachings of Walter Fremont, Jim Berg, Bob Wood, Jack Hyles, Bill Gothard, and others. All of these men, as well as the behaviorist system called Nouthetic Counseling, have represented themselves as experts at counseling, in spite of not having even the most basic education in the proper treatment of acute trauma or post-traumatic conditions. They are also guilty of gross ignorance of the Bible. It is entirely possible for the Christian believer to live a life of triumph after abuse, but grief during and after suffering is entirely normal and appropriate. Jeri Massi is a Christian who has spent decades documenting the abuses of children in Christian Fundamentalism. She is also a martial arts master. In this book, she draws upon both her faith and her martial arts experience to offer readers a method of making choices day to day to ascend through grief, manage emotions, and build a stable, calm outlook .While not a replacement for therapy after abuse, this book is an excellent companion for readers who want to keep their minds focused on a path of recovery.

handling pain

I really appreciated Jeri's perspective on pain and the struggle people often have with knowing what to do with it.

I also appreciated the comments she made at the end about different ways we relate to God and interact with Him.
