About this listen

England, 1422: Owen Tudor, a Welsh servant, waits in Windsor Castle to meet his new mistress, the beautiful and lonely Queen Catherine of Valois, widow of the warrior king, Henry V. Her infant son is crowned king of England and France, and while the country simmers on the brink of civil war, Owen becomes her protector. They fall in love, risking Owen's life and Queen Catherine's reputation, but how do they found the dynasty that changes British history - the Tudors?

I really enjoyed this book. I was interested because of the subject of the book. I’ve yet to see another historical fiction centered on Owen Tudor and thought the author did a great job of bringing the love story of him and Katherine of Valois to life!

Great listen!

Loved the book, did not love the narration. Ian Fisher had to many stumbles or mispronunciation, and that kills the story for me.

Different narrator needed

I enjoyed the historic aspect of the book. However, the narrator's delivery invoked very little emotion, and did not bring the characters to life. A less refined, more impassioned narrator could have greatly enhanced the listening experience.

Needs More Emotion

Would have liked a bit more history but the sequencing was excellent and the narrator very good.

Well performed.

the book Qasim interesting and well written. I was not crazy about the narrator but enjoyed the book enough I didn't feel distracted.

Was very interesting to start from the beginning of the Tudor trilogy. To read about Owen Tudor and then to know when his grandson was born to be given the name Henry Tudor. Can't wait for the rest of the series.

But it had some inaccuracies that didn't make sense. It wasn't enough to make me stop listening because it was a good listen. I just don't understand the point of killing off his daughter Margaret as a newborn. It's nowhere near as shameful as Showtime's The Tudors mishmashing Margaret and Mary into one person-and I didn't stop watching-but still. Ah well. There's not much out there that focuses on Owen and Jasper, so, for that, I'm grateful to Mr. Riches.

Love this stuff.

I’ve never even heard of tony riches much less read his books What have I missed.?..I so enjoyed this book the historical details and the food the royals ate. The American listeners will be astounded to read the menu. Mr riches made every sentence interesting and important. I look so forward to book 2 of the Tudor trilogy. The British history can be a little complicated with so many factions and civil war but he made them more simple to understand. I highly recommend this audio book. You won’t. Be sorry

Wow. It doesn’t get better than this

Surprised about the rather critical reviews, I am quite critical, and I thought the narrator was good. Voice easy to listen. I wanted to learn more history of Owen Tudor, and this offers a fun lesson, well based on history. I am now curious to search out more factual information. (always a sign of a good historical fiction book) No, there was no mention of a daughter Tacinda, —curious, and I will look for more history of her now; thanks for drawing the attention to her from the reviewer. Seems like they were quite a few children of Owen and Jasper. When I finished this book and immediately purchased “Jasper”.
I like this Welch author, Tony Riches. I don’t think there’s any need to crucify the author and the narrator. Pleasant listening. I listening straight throughout 2 days of my routines which made them more tolerable! I enjoyed and learned much. I do recommend this book.

Quite Enjoyable !

I was wanting to learn more about Owen Tudor and his life. Usually historical fiction will include a lot of historical facts but this one didn’t have enough. There was more fiction than history and even inaccuracies. Where was Tacinda Tudor? The daughter of Owen and Catherine is never mentioned. Maybe my disappointment is from a male author who skimmed past the important facts of Owen and Catherine’s life and concentrated more on the possible day to day dealings of Owen with no basis in history. And the performance was the most abominable one I’ve encountered so far. Really really a bad read. I’ll be returning this title.

So disappointing.
