About this listen

She swore to never marry! Georgiana Darcy is a lady with a secret! The last thing she wants is to return to London. But what else can she do when her brother and his wife make plans to spend the Christmas season in town?

When Lizzy’s youngest sister, Lydia, joins them, Georgiana gains a confidante, but will Lydia’s outgoing nature cause problems when Lord Sele, son of a family friend reappears in Georgiana’s life? As an insufferable boy, Lord Sele vowed he would marry Georgiana, but was his return from Ireland a coincidence, or was his sole purpose to pursue her?

He admits to desiring friendship, but Lydia is determined his desire is Georgiana, and she will stop at nothing to see her best friend happily settled. What is Georgiana to do when faced with the society she has managed to avoid for her entire adult life, as well as the one man determined to change her mind about marriage? Will she be able to overcome her fears despite the spectre from the past that seems to be haunting her? Will she be forced to tell her secret and choose happiness, or will someone from her past ruin everything?

Loved this story

I’m a big fan of many of the plots and subplots in this ‘multiple threads pulled’ story. A heroine with a sad secret. A Knight in shining armor-utterly romantically swooningly devoted and steadfast. Sigh….

I also love a character redeemed story, and because in the previous book Papa Bennet had his eyes opened courtesy of Darcy and took charge of his daughters education and conduct with the addition of a governess, Lydia’s spirit and energy was challenged and channeled into the girl she should have become.
She’s still Lydia, I loved her in this story. She’s living with the Darcys: Elizabeth, Fitzwilliam and Georgiana. Lydia and Georgiana have become friends, what a team! There is much poignancy in their friendship. Georgiana’s and Lydia’s romances are both beautiful in their own ways, Georgiana’s most in the foreground as she battles with herself over telling her suitor about her past. Hers is a very slow burn acknowledgment of her feelings which flame into a fire at the end. Whew! The Hero is ‘to die for.’ I wish we could see him again. He has strengths that weren’t explored enough in my opinion.

New characters are a delight. An old character comes back to haunt Georgiana, and that becomes the dramatic climax of the story.

Darcy and Elizabeth are very present in this book too. It’s lovely to see them living their lives together with their family. Little William, Master Darcy is a charming disruption sprinkled throughout the story of. He loves his Aunt Gi, and escaping his nurse.

I let enough time pass between reading or listening to this favorite author’s series that I forget details and how they end so I’m engrossed and surprised with repeated readings.

Highly recommended, especially for newer readers of Austen variations who haven’t read Diamond’d backlist. And don’t miss Rain and Retribution.

Very good story

This was a very good second volume of a variation. I really look forward to the third volume, if there is one. I very much hope there will be!

Quite Lovely

I really enjoyed the storyline. It was very well written. Georgiana's past with George Wickham was so heartbreaking. Nathaniel was quite endearing and steadfast. I wish more would been said about Mr. B and his new situation.

Narration is wonderfully done.

Great rendition

Loved this version, the changes in the story lead to a different set of obstacles for ODC to overcome. The narration was wonderful if you speed the playback up to 1.1.

Great story

This book was mostly about Georgiana Darcy. But also about ODC. There is some small angst. This was a beautiful story and well written and narrated.

Great book and reading. This is what a great clean Recency Romance should be like.
