About this listen

What if you were stuck in a tower but didn't realize?

Zel has lived her whole life in a penthouse suite. The best food, the best clothes, and the best entertainment at her fingertips with a mere push of a button. But there's something missing. And the online chat she has with Asher is her only connection to the outside world.

But all of that is about to change, and Zel's life is about to be turned upside down.

This is a dystopian stand-alone reverse harem with a twist. It was previously titled Hidden. Only the title and cover have changed.

Quick and Unique

This was such a unique imaginative story, I loved it. Zel has everything she needs except the ability to go outside. There were some twists and it didn't go where I expected. I definitely recommend it

Nicole Payten-Betts' narration was fantastic. She was clear and I loved her accent. The characters were distinguishable from each other.

Super Fun

I am super confused by this book. It’s a totally enjoyable YA, dystopian short version of Everything, Everything. It’s a fun listen that cuts off right as it’s getting to the most interesting part. What I don’t understand is the hyper sexualized cover and allusions to it being a reverse harem (which I love) There is a chaste kiss. There is one main female and multiple male leads but I don’t think that qualifies the story as a reverse harem. I think it has a ton of potential it just has an identity issue.

The narration is easy to listen to.

Quite clever

Hidden is a quick, entertaining, futuristic dystopian Reverse Harem story. Zel has been burdened with a breathing condition her entire life which would not allow her to step foot outside of her home. To do so would result in her death. Therefore, she has never met another living soul other than her mother. Her apartment has every luxury; she has access to books and entertainment. Zel has created a good life for herself, but still, it's an empty life. For several months she has had online communication with a guy, Asher. He's become a lifeline of sorts; a distraction of sorts; possibly the most valued part of her day. An unexpected gift and unexpected meeting introduce Zel to new thoughts and new possibilities. Not everything is as it seems.

Zel is a fascinating lead female. She has never had any socialization and is starved for companionship, yet she is not bitter or withdrawn. She's brilliant and has a sarcastic streak. For someone who has no idea if they are nice or nasty, shy or friendly, she is remarkably well-adjusted. She's very likable. Asher is an interesting character and becomes more so as we learn more about him.

This new vision of Rapunzel is quite clever and original. For such a short read, the story was nicely developed with surprises along the way. Nicole Payten-Betts is great as Zal. Her voice is captivating. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

A cute, short story

This was a cute short story about a girl basically stuck in a bubble. Her only communication with the outside world is a man named Asher. She’s a genius and is trying to find a way to breathe outside. It’s cute and short... I know I said this already but that’s the best way I know how to describe it. I honestly wish it was longer. The world was interesting and the characters were very interesting.

Unique Retelling

This was a great sci-fi retelling of Rapunzel! Zel has it all and the best of everything, but the one thing she’s missing and longing for is to go to the world outside of her penthouse. Her whole life, she’s been told that she couldn’t breathe the outside air or she’d die which left her with no one to talk to besides her mother. Zel meets Asher in an online chat and she soon feels a strong connection with him. She’s very intelligent, but naive and has a talent for tinkering and is better than anyone else despite her young age. This book was filled with twists and turns, lies, secrets, and a short sweet romance.
Nicole did a great job with this narration! She used slight voice variations for each character and I loved her accent. I was hooked from start to finish with her performance and the amount of emotion that she used!

Great short story

This is a great story to listen to while you’re waiting in the waiting room or running a few errands. I thought it was sweet and the guys are hot. Also, I love a good conspiracy theory.
Narration was good.

Skillfully crafted short

This was a great, clean scifi story. While there is a romantic theme throughout (with a complete HEA), this is more of an art piece than fluff. I found the narrator quirky, with some very unique pronunciation of many words. not disruptive to my listening in any eay, just different.
