Editorial reviews

The inhabitants of Oregon territory in this tale from Wayne D. Overholster don't think the Civil War will reach them but, as it unfolds, neighbor is turned against neighbor. The son of one Union-sympathizing family and daughter of a nearby Confederate-leaning family want to be with each other but feuds keep them apart. Although the fighting's 3,000 miles away, the flying of the Stars and Stripes threatens to start a small-scale war right there in Oregon. Eli Davis performs this Romeo and Juliet story from the perspective of the family's youngest son with the excitement and innocence of a youngster in trying to be tough in rough times
